CLARKS MILLS – Marjorie Clark Walker, 94, of Holiday Drive, Portland, formerly of Clarks Mills, Hollis, passed away Oct. 2, 2012. She was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Clarks Mills, daughter of Cecil F. Clark and Blanche Smith Clark.
Marjorie attended Saco schools and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1937 and from Westbrook Junior College in 1939. In August 1940, she married Warren Walker at her family home in Clarks Mills and this is where they raised their family. She belonged to West Buxton Order of the Eastern Star, First Parish Congregational Church UCC, Saco, and was a hard working member of the Republican Party. For many years she was on the board of directors of Camp Laughing Loon, supported Hollis Center Library and worked at voter registration in Hollis. She also volunteered for many local service organizations, including the American Cancer Society.
She was predeceased by her husband, Warren L. Walker, in1985. She is survived by her three sons, Bill Walker and wife, Carole, of Auburn, John Walker and wife, Lee, of Kennebunk and Charlie Walker and wife, Donna, of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; and twin daughters, Mary Sanborn and husband, Leonard, of Standish and Marcia Steenstra of Rockland. She leaves 13 grandchildren, Susan, Joanne, Jill, Jeffrey, Derek, Sarah, Douglas, Kyle, Karyn, Peter John, Clark, Daniel and Matthew; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Walker and Helen Walker. Marjorie’s happiest times were spent with her family. She taught them the importance of caring for one another and her family will honor her memory by continuing this legacy. The family extends their gratitude for the personal and loving care she received from the staff at Birchwoods at Canco while she was a resident there.
Friends and relatives may call 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Highland Cemetery, Route 35, 2 Highland Lane, Dayton, with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. A celebration of Marjorie’s life will be held at a later date.
