FARMINGTON, Maine — A local man pleaded guilty Wednesday to punching a police officer in the face in January in front of Rite Aid in the middle of routes 4 and 27.
Simon Blodgett, 33, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of assault on an officer and misdemeanor charges of refusing to submit to arrest and obstructing public ways.
If the case had gone to trial, Farmington police Officer Courtney Krause would have testified that she responded to a report of a drunken man dancing in the road and stopping vehicles in Farmington at about about 9 p.m. on Jan. 8, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said.
When she arrived Blodgett had a vehicle stopped. She tried to move Blodgett to the side of the road and he swung and struck her in the face with a closed fist. Krause took Blodgett to the ground and stayed on top of him holding him down trying to arrest him but he resisted arrest, Andrews said.
Sgt. Michael Adcock would testify that when he arrived he saw Krause on top of Blodgett and went to assist and Blodgett was arrested.
Krause was in pain and her cheek was swollen and discolored. She went to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and was treated and released, Andrews said.
Justice Michaela Murphy accepted an agreement of a one-year deferred disposition on the assault of an officer charge that includes alcohol-related conditions. Blodgett also was ordered to pay $1,039 in restitution to Maine Municipal Association for Krause’s medical care and for uniform damage.
Andrews said that Blodgett had written an apology letter to Krause right after the incident. Krause was consulted and agreed with the disposition, he said.
On the two misdemeanor convictions, Blodgett will be sentenced in March 2013 to serve 120 days in jail as part of the agreement, Andrews said.
Defense attorney, Kevin Joyce added that it was the worst night of Blodgett’s life. He has not consumed alcohol since the incident, he said.
There have been three bail checks at his residence and there was no alcohol found, Joyce said.

In the end a girl kicked his but.
The injured officer is a woman , not a girl.
Grow up.

I remember another story about a small town that didn’t allow dancing…
I know what i would have done, thats why i decided not to become a cop.
This guy apparently did not understand that Dancing in the Streets was not to be taken literally. Oh, the life of a small town cop…
His Sioux name is Dances w/Cars…

“Justice Michaela Murphy accepted an agreement of a one-year deferred disposition on the assault of an officer charge that includes alcohol-related conditions.”
No jail for assaulting a police officer. does it show this judge was once a criminal’s lawyer?
Do Maine cops not carry Tasers–so simple jolt the dancing fool drag him off to the slammer ta sleep it off–cup of java in the morning and off he goes–I mean its not like he was holding up a Rite Aid or something–he was doing a lil dance -shake shake shake get down tonight.
No all of them carry Tasers.
When I read the headline on this article “Farmington Man Pleads Guilty To Punching Police Officer After Dancing In The Road”, I wasn’t quite sure if it was the man or the Police Officer that was dancing in the road or if the man danced in the road and then pleaded quilty! The wording of the headlines sometimes sound pretty silly! I continued reading to find out that there is a Rite Aid in the middle of routes 4 and 27, yet they arrested Blodgett for obstructing public ways. Will they be relocating Rite Aid anytime soon? Some fine journalism by Sun Journal!
