KNOX, Maine — A local woman accused of hitting her husband while he was driving their family home Wednesday afternoon from an excursion to a fast food eatery has been arrested.

Donna Boulter, 34, of Knox, apparently had begun arguing with the victim at the Belfast Wendy’s around 2 p.m. A Maine State Trooper who happened to be at the restaurant warned the couple against disorderly conduct, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

The fight escalated as the couple drove home, he said, and a woman driving on Route 137 called police to report that she could see in her rearview mirror a woman hitting the male driver of a car. The vehicle was following hers closely and was swerving around the road, she told police dispatchers.

The couple pulled into the Hilltop Store in Knox, and when deputies approached them there they explained that the argument stemmed in part from Boulter’s desire to smoke in the car with the children. Her husband told her she couldn’t do that, Trafton said.

Police charged Boulter with domestic violence assault, and she was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast to be booked.

She was on probation from a prior conviction of domestic violence assault, he said. The family has been referred to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

  1. good to see some of these woman are called out, like they have been doing for years to men!! and yes I am a woman!!!

    1. Really bad. How many children in the vehicle? What are their ages? Multiply this by many daily situations from many families & what are these kids going through, what are they learning, & what will they become.

  2. If your mother insists on smoking in the car while kids are present, you might be a redneck. At least her husband was trying to make her do the right thing. He should watch a couple of John Wayne movies. The Duke had a way to deal with punchy women.

  3. Violated probation , go directly to jail.  I once was involved with a woman who hit me.  I didn’t give her a second shot. Angry men and women should get professional help before this stuff happens !

  4. It sounds like this guy was looking out for his kids best interest and she just lost her mind.  I actually went back and reread the sentence about who was smoking because I thought for sure I had read it wrong and found it hard to believe that a mother was insisting on smoking in the car.  Good for the dad, now you just need to get this woman out of your life and raise your kids in a non-violent environment.  Anyone who hits another person, especially in the company of your own children, does not deserve a second chance. Sorry, but as a parent you are held to a higher standard, IMHO.

    1. Kudo’s to law enforcement for not locking the man up which seems to be the norm in these stories. Domestic violence is not always perpetrated by a male.

  5. There is no place in society for domestic violence by men, women or children.  We should be role models.  People have to practice patience and tolerance or just go to a quiet place when feeling out of control and/or seek counseling.  I’ve seen one too many marriages fail because of abuse and controlling spouses.  Live and let live.  Nothing is worth going to jail.  Now that her family and friends see her in orange prison garb, maybe she’ll be shamed into getting the help she desperately needs.

    1.  lol, I read it that way three times before I got it right, he was driving their family home (taking the family home), I first envisioned him driving the family HOME…….
