ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – Lois Ann (Dahl) Hahm, 64, passed away Sept. 17, 2012, after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born April 24, 1948, in Old Town, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Pomroy Dahl.
Lois was educated in Old Town schools, graduating from Old Town High School, in 1966, and from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1970, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education. During these years she worked in her father’s bakery and was a member of Old Town United Methodist Church. In the fall of 1970, Lois began her teaching career in Pittsfield. Three years later Lois took a fourth grade teaching position in Eddington, where she taught for 15 years. While at Eddington she mentored and brought teams of students to the State and National Olympics of the Minds competitions. In 1988 Lois moved to Florida, where she taught second through fifth grades in Tampa public schools until she retired in 2010. She received two Teacher of the Year awards. She chaired many school projects and fundraising events. Lois had a passion for teaching and devoted 40 years to her children/students. Lois was a friend to all school staff and a mentor to numerous student teachers. Her remarkable smile, cheerful spirit and talents proved to all who encountered her that learning is enjoyable. Lois was a devoted daughter, wife, sister and aunt.
She was predeceased by her father and mother, Joseph and Mary Dahl. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 22 years, Roy; sister, Enga Stewart and husband, John, of Augusta; brothers, Joe and wife, Pam, of Bangor, John and wife, Judy, of Hermon, David and wife, Pam, of Carmel and Mark and wife, Kathi, of Glendale, Ariz.; two aunts, many cousins, nieces, nephews, dear neighbors and school friends.
There will be a graveside committal service Oct. 14 at Lawndale Cemetery. Lois requested there be no funeral service. If you wish to make a contribution in Lois’ memory, please donate to your favorite school library.
