BAR HARBOR, Maine — A local man is behind bars after being accused, for the second time this year, of causing local property damage after getting behind the wheel of a pickup truck.
Ethan Fogg, 30, was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly crashed a pickup truck in the woods off Main Street during the weekend.
He is accused of driving a 2012 GMC truck away from the scene after he lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Main Street and Cromwell Harbor Road at around 2:45 a.m. Sunday. Police later found a license plate that had come off the truck and tracked him and the vehicle down at his house.
Officer Soren Sundberg of the Bar Harbor Police Department said Monday that Fogg is suspected of causing between $20,000 and $25,000 in damage to the pickup truck, which belongs to Fogg’s grandmother.
The truck is not the same GMC pickup truck that Fogg is accused of driving through Ledgelawn Cemetery and onto the Kebo Valley Golf Course in May, according to Sundberg. That vehicle was on loan from a dealer while Fogg’s personal vehicle was in the shop, police have said.
Charges of aggravated criminal mischief and criminal trespass still are pending against Fogg as a result of the May incident, which caused $5,000 in damage to the golf course grounds, Sundberg said.
The incident early Sunday came to the attention of police after a nearby resident called to report he had heard screeching tires and then a thud that sounded like a crash, according to a police summary of the incident.
Police indicated that Fogg is believed to have been driving east on Cromwell Harbor Road before he drove into the ditch and then struck a stop sign where the road intersects Main Street, south of the town’s ballfields. The truck continued, turning left onto Main Street and then, in a wide arc, kept turning to the left until it went off Main Street into some trees, Sundberg said.
The officer said police did not find the truck at the scene but found debris from the incident 62 feet into the woods off of Main Street.
Sundberg said there were multiple witnesses to the incident. He said the witnesses are not believed to have been in the vehicle with Fogg but, citing the ongoing investigation, declined to go into details.
After gathering evidence and conducting interviews, police on Monday morning found Fogg and the damaged truck at his home. Police arrested Fogg on a charge of tampering with a witness, alleging he instructed someone not to tell police what happened, the officer said.
Fogg also was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, driving to endanger, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and failure to report an accident by the quickest means, according to police.
Sundberg said Fogg still was being held Monday afternoon at Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth on $2,000 cash bail.

Another case where this state should have the death penalty
Yes,we are all waiting for you to screw up like this guy and then the state can make you disappear too.
His last name fits him perfectly as it seems his mind is in one often.
Grammy will get him the best lawyer and the town will end up saying sorry to him.
The OUI part will not stick if he keeps his story straight .
How can they charge him with driving under the influence, if they didn’t track him down and arrest him until the next day? Don’t they need evidence of that?
“Sundberg said there were multiple witnesses to the incident”. That should suit the Court’s requirements of evidence – as long as they’re willing to testify.
And these witnesses are experts on whether a person is under the influence or not?
Why would anyone need an expert to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt? I’d sooner believe that multiple witnesses to his behavior immediately prior to and following the incident along with an attempt to tamper with a witness would convince any jury.
Yes, because witnesses NEVER lie.
Sounds like you don’t have much faith in the integrity of fellow human beings.
Multiple witnesses after 2:00 am, not true unless the deer and the squirrel are testifying. This is a fishing expedition on the part of the Bar Harbor PD, Leaving the scene of an accident won’t even stick if he intended to report it on the next business day which would be tomorrow with the holiday. Bar Harbor PD are overstaffed and being disingenuous in the charges they are attempting to file.
“A reportable accident must be reported immediately by the quickest means of communication to a state police officer, or to the nearest state police field office, or to the sheriff’s office, or to a deputy sheriff, within the county in which the accident occurred, or to the office of the police department, or to an officer, of the municipality in which the accident occurred”
And if he reported it the next business day with no other vehicle involved and no injuries it will be dropped and even if it wasn’t it would be a fine. The Bar Harbor PD overreached , and you don’t think its coincidental that this story appeared on a holiday? They tipped off the reporter in an attempt to shape the perception.
“Immediately by the quickest means” is not very ambiguous. Where do you get this “next business day” thing?
IMHO, local authorities are SOL on the OUI charge, since they couldn’t test the man ASAP after he allegedly LSA’d (left scene of accident). WTF are you going to do? I’m not really LMAO or ROTF. This is serious and will eventually be #out.
Note to self: Don’t let Fogg use my Siearra
Ethan’s not a bad guy, but he’s never had to have much responsibility.
Good thing.
Would that be because his rich family always bails him out of whatever trouble he’s been in??
Maybe, but I never saw him as malicious. Just a goofball.
He’s obviously not a very good drunk driver.
They should leagalize drunk driving .
Hey! the guy likes to drive on the edge. Get over it. He should move to Mass. or California and be just another regular driver. Glad he hasn’t killed or injured others.
turning left off of the Cromwell Harbor Road, his family’s property begins on the right hand side of Main Street. On the left would be the Cromwell Harbor Motel with what I would assume to be a large amount of very credible witnesses, that we woke up on.
he was turning left off of Cromwell Harbor Road. Immediately on his right was his family’s estate, and on the left Cromwell Harbor Motel. Motel was FULL, with many credible witnesses, as well as the owners who are VERY familiar with Ethan. Time to grow up for him. The truck and the insurance HAVE to be in the grandmothers name because he cannot obtain his own insurance. Time for the prince to meet reality before he kills someone.
