TOME, N.M. — A New Mexico television station said Sunday morning that the body of a Dixfield man reported missing by his girlfriend last week was found Friday night not far from the site of where his truck was found crashed a week ago.
Brandon Young, 29, of Dixfield was not with his Dodge pickup, which had been in a single-vehicle crash, when it was discovered, and authorities found footprints leading to the highway.
KOAT-TV in Albuquerque reported Sunday that Young’s family said his body was found near the crash scene on Friday. Young had been working for nearly a year as a traveling wind turbine technician in New Mexico.
Young was reported missing by his girlfriend, Jessica Martinez, last week. At the time, she told another Albuquerque television station, KRQE-TV, that Young left the couple’s Los Lunas hotel room and went for a drive in his Dodge pickup on Sept. 30. She said Young was angry at the time and had been drinking prior to leaving.
Authorities later found his pickup truck crashed off Highway 47 near Belen about 10 miles south of Los Lunas, according to KRQE. Investigators said they think Young’s truck crossed the centerline, struck a utility pole and went through a barbed wire fence, the station reported.
Young’s family told KOAT on Sunday that they will remember him as a great man.
“Brandon was the type of person that would give the shirt off his back to anybody. He would go out of his way to help anybody. He had the biggest heart. The kindest man I’ve ever met. He would do anything to help anybody out,” Young’s cousin, Ryan Plourde, told the television station.
Young’s family said his body will be returned to Maine for funeral services.
The Valencia County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation into his death. They have not released a statement on Young’s death.

Unfortunately, unless one is wearing highly visible clothing (like hunter’s blaze orange) they are not easy to see – especially if they are prone or otherwise obscured from view.
The article says he was “angry” and had been drinking – this is not a good combination for a drive whether it was day or night.
It is definitely sad that a young man’s life has been lost.
