ORRINGTON and BANGOR – James “Jim” Willard Goodman Sr., 75, passed away Oct. 9, 2012, surrounded by loved ones at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Furnace Run, Pa., son of James J. and Hattie (Smith) Goodman.
Jim served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, 101st Airbourne. He worked for many years at Bangor Shoe. Jim retired from Eastern Fine Paper just before their closing, having worked there for more than 25 years. He loved hunting and fishing, and stock car racing was a big part of his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Gloria Ruth (Woodbury) Goodman of Orrington; children, Carl Woodbury and fiancee, Kim Havey, of Franklin, Joann Sawyer of Orrington, and James “Jim” Goodman Jr. and fiancee, Kelly White, of Brewer; siblings, Jewell Bogg Goodman of Kittanning, Pa., Sidney Goodman of Espyville, Pa., Stella “Marlene” Treece of Templeton, Pa., Lawrence Goodman of Maugansville, Md., and Patty King of Kittanning, Pa.; grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Gloria, Nora, James “JJ,” Mel, Megan and Monte; great-grandchildren, Camden, Gloria and Ahreanna; very close friends, Doug, Debbie and Judy; and many other dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, William “Bill” Goodman, Albie Goodman and Harold “Pie” Goodman; and sisters, Violet, who was an infant and Linda Query.
Family and friends may gather 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at Harts Corner Cemetery, Holden.
