OAKLAND – Natalie “Jane” (Sides) Humphrey, 82, passed away peacefully Oct. 8, 2012, with her family by her side, at home. She was born June 20, 1930, in Sherman, daughter of the late Montelle and Gladys (James) Sides.
She graduated from Sherman High School in 1947 and in 1951 moved to Connecticut with her family. She resided in Prospect, Conn., for 48 years and after retirement worked for Allstar Bus Co. as a bus monitor until her return to Maine in 2009. Natalie enjoyed gardening, tending her flower beds and bird feeders, and trips to Old Orchard Beach. She was a member of the Congregational church in Prospect, Conn., and belonged to the square dancing group, Buttons and Bows.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald Humphrey of Waterbury, Conn., and David Humphrey and wife, Monica, of Watertown, Conn.; daughters, Linda Austin and husband, Donald, of Oakland and Peggy Gay and husband, William, of Surry; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Viola Sides and Dorothy Sides. Natalie was predeceased by three brothers, Kirk, Harry and Odell Sides; and one sister, Elsie Tyler. The family thanks Dr. Ronald Hart and his staff at the Alfond Center for Cancer Care and hospice for their devoted care.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in Natalie’s memory to The Alfond Center for Cancer Care, 361 Old Belgrade Road, Augusta, ME 04330.
