PARKMAN – Raymond “Ray” Sears, 86, died Oct. 12, 2012, at his home. He was born July 10, 1926, in Reading, Mass., son of John and Ada (Gabry) Sears.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War. He was a jack-of-all-trades. He worked as a caretaker at a boys’ camp in Naples, and also for several property owners, including overseer of the sheep herd at the Piel Farm in Abbot. Ray was probably best known as the “Lawn Mower Man.” He was a charter member of Big Pine Gun Club and served as president for many years.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor “Ellie” Sears. He is survived by a daughter, Lynda Sears and close friend, Rhonda Merrill, of Concord, Calif.; sister, Thelma Garstang and husband, Dick, of New Hampshire; sister-in-law, Betty Tower of Sangerville; several nieces and nephews.
