SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A Maine ice cream company has taken home the top ice cream prize at a national dairy product contest for the third straight year.

Gifford’s Ice Cream was named the Ice Cream Grand Champion at the 2012 World Dairy Expo, held earlier this month in Madison, Wis.

The Skowhegan company won the grand champion award for its vanilla bean ice cream, while also taking home awards for its French vanilla and toasted coconut ice creams, its orange sherbet and it s black raspberry chocolate chip frozen yogurt.

The expo each year holds contests for a number of dairy products, including ice cream, cheese, butter, yogurt and milk.

    1.  nobody said it was good for you! like with so many things if you don’t want to eat it don’t, nobody’s making you.

      1. Right on!! ;) Sounds like one unhappy dude. Needs to lighten up, brighten up and carpe diem; or the Gifford’s.

      2. I never said it was good or bad for you, either.  I was just pointing out the disconnect between Gifford’s claims of “quality” and their decidedly low-quality, artificial ingredients.

      3.  He never said “healthy”, these are not “quality” ingredients.  High Fructose corn syrup is used because it’s cheap, hydrogenated oils are used because they are cheap and can stabilize the product for a long shelf life.  Dyes and artificial flavorings are just a crutch.  Try ice cream made from scratch without these ingredients if you want quality and great flavor.

    2. that is the store brand i wish they sold the same thing in the market as in the stands. totaly different not even close to the same quality.they would never win an award for that junk in the grocery stores.
