WATERVILLE, Maine — A Waterville teenager is facing a felony charge after he attempted to have sex with a woman he had been staying with for several months, police said.

Gage Wells, 18, was booked into the Kennebec County Jail on Sunday morning and charged with gross sexual assault, a Class A felony punishable by up to 25 years behind bars, Waterville police Chief Joseph Massey said.

Wells had been staying at the apartment on College Avenue “for three to four months,” according to Massey, who added the suspect was a friend of the woman’s ex-boyfriend.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, Gage allegedly walked in the apartment while the woman was on the phone with a friend and attempted to have sex with her, Massey said. Even though the woman refused, that didn’t stop Gage from continuing to make advances, the police chief said, before eventually leaving.

Police were called, and when Officer Tristan Russell arrived, he spotted Wells walking away from the apartment and questioned him.

Wells said to the officer, “I know why you’re here,” and Russell called for backup, Massey said. When it was determined the woman was uninjured and Wells was the alleged assailant, he was arrested, Massey said.

Wells remains at the Kennebec County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.

  1. The DA will cut this shmuck a deal and he’ll be out in less than 6 months…..LOVE our justice system!!   It’s nothing more than a really bad joke.

      1. Maybe you do not but a lot of women do .   I really  did not think this was funny but facing 25 years for unwelcome advances is a little much don’t you think? Maybe more to the story .

        1. That’s my point, Bobby.  I don’t think the incident was a simple case of ‘he made a pass at her and she said no’.  I think he assaulted her and the BDN is using language that downplays the incident.

You are right, there probably is more to the story, usually is.

          1. I respect that you defend women .   Not all women deserve to be defended . Not all men are bad. That is my point we never seem to get the truth out of the paper. Thanks I gave you a like.

  2. He didn’t want to get her pregnant so he thought he would try forceable rape to make sure she didn’t.

  3. “attempted to have sex with her”

?????****MAJOR THUMBS DOWN TO THE BDN for using language to downplay sexual assault.

    1. I agree .  If every man who made an unwelcome sexual advance was in jail most men would be .  I always believed no means no. But talk to some women and I think I am stupid lol . I will never change I am a nice guy .
