TOWNSEND, Mass. – Barbara M. (McPheters) Edfors, 80, of Pierce Road, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Golden Living Center, Fitchburg, Mass. Barbara “Babs” Edfors was born March 1, 1932, in Bar Harbor, daughter of Byron W. and Alice Myrtle (Dunning) McPheters.
She was a graduate of Machias High School. She continued her education at Fisher College, Boston. She and her family have resided in Townsend, Mass., for more than 40 years. Babs worked for Steinbach department stores and also for Bendix Aviation Co., both in New Jersey. Many years ago she worked as a sales associate for Liberty Mutual Life Insurance Co., Providence, R.I. Throughout the years Babs was involved in many endeavors including a cake decorating business in Danvers, Mass., and Littleton, Mass., and a family farm in Townsend, Mass., where she raised organic vegetables as well as farm-raised lamb, pork and poultry. She was an accomplished breeder of German shepherd dogs, showing in matches all along the East Coast. She was a prize winning embroidery designer working for Custom House Embroidery, Townsend, Mass., in the 1970s. Many of her designs are still sold today. In later years, genealogical research was her passion right up until her death. She was well recognized for knowledge of Maine families, developing extensive files on the early families of Stetson. She collaborated with Ambassador Robert R. King on his book, “The Life and Times of Daniel Matthews,” a Revolutionary War hero from Maine.
She leaves her husband of 57 years, John E. Edfors; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth E. “Lisa” and Simon J. Hennin of Worcester, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Seth A. Hennin and Zoe R. Hennin.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Route 119, Townsend Center, Mass., where Mrs. Edfors’ family will receive family and friends noon until the time of service.
