DEXTER, Maine — A speeding car led to marijuana and prescription drug charges being lodged against a Guilford man on Thursday evening.

Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle and Sgt. Alan Grinnell pulled over a female driver for speeding on Route 23 at 5:05 p.m. Thursday, said Wintle.

“When I approached the window, I could smell the odor of marijuana. We asked them to exit the vehicle,” said Wintle on Friday.

When questioned about the smell of marijuana, the passenger Joshua Bickmore, 26, of Guilford said there was marijuana in the vehicle.

“He took full responsibility for it,” said Wintle.

Wintle said 4 ounces of marijuana was found in the car. He said it had a street value of about $1,200.

Once Bickmore was placed in custody, police found 15 prescription drug pills, the chief said.

Bickmore was charged with unlawful furnishing of Schedule Z drugs and unlawful possession of Schedule W drugs. Both are Class D misdemeanors.

Bickmore was taken to the Dexter Police Department, where he was released on $500 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear in Newport District Court on Dec. 12.

The female driver was not charged.

    1. If a friend offers you an alcoholic drink, they are not your friend. If a friend offers you a cigarette, they are not your friend. If a friend offers you a Romney bumper sticker, they are not your friend. Alcohol kills more people around the world in one hour than POT has since it’s discovery. God made grass, man made booze, who can you trust?

        1. No, not nervous a bit a Romney becoming president. One word spells his defeat, ethnicity, he has none. He is as white as rice. When you combine Latinos, Blacks, and Asians, they now out number whites and I do not believe Mitt will get a single vote from them. Do you honestly believe there are enough rich white people voting to overcome the ethnic vote? I am not naive enough to think that it makes a difference these days who is in the White House. Both parties are bought and paid for by big money and special interest groups. I put on a pair of work boots everyday and I am not feeling the love from either party these days.

          1. Weird.  The only people who bring “ethnicity” into a discussion (especially a discussion not even remotely connected to “r a c e”) are r a c i s t.

          2. Not true. I have many friends who are black, Hispanic, and Asian. I worked on board ships for years where everyone is the same color. I was merely pointing out the reason why Mitt will not win, in my humble opinion. I am basically apolitical and completely ambivalent in the matter. I think the working men and women of America will come out on the short end of the stick, again, no matter which party wins. Both parties are responsible for the economic mess we are in and both parties pander to the super wealthy, are guilty of selling out the American dream to the highest bidder, and could not possibly care less about what you and I think. Open your eyes. Why was there only two men on the debate stage? That should bother every single American, but it doesn’t. Just a bunch of sheep these days. BAAAAH! BAAAAH!

          3.   So youre saying that Obamas name could be inserted where it says Romneys’ name in your original post?

          4. Careful there mate,

The kooky partisans hate when you make an observation that does not jive with their deeply held FEELING that one figurehead president is better or worse than another….

          1. Is the sombrero STILL the drink of choice for Maineacs whose personal and intellectual development ended when they were h.s. sophomores ?

            Say it ain’t so……

      1. TannerHyde, I’d be fascinated to see the research that produced this 16 trillion dollar debt. Could you provide me with a link, please? I’m certain it must be readily available to the public.

        1. sounds like you have confused the deficit with the national debt. google 16 trillion dollar national debt fool. Its easy to look up, but you want someone else to do it for you because you are a typical mentally lazy citizen.   I don’t know what is scarier, the fact that you are so ill informed or the fact that 4 people liked your comment

    1. So we should ignore the 15 pills too and let them go with a slap on the wrist? If the driver had not been speeding they wouldn’t have been stopped. Personally I’m glad the man was arrested because it is obvious he is just not smoking weed.

    2. Speak to your elected representatives if you do not like the current laws on marijuana cultivation, possession, use and distribution.  For as long as it’s illegal, all ethical and capable police officers will enforce the law just like they do regarding theft, domestic violence and drunk driving.  Better yet, get beyond marijuana like I did way back in 1976.  I learned that it was dorky then…and it has become no less dorky 36 years later.

  1. The war on drugs is alive and well in Dexter. The Dexter P.D. will follow you to the very gates of hell if they think you have a joint in your pocket. Chief Wintle has made it a top priority of his department to eradicate marijuana from the face of the earth. All other crimes will be dealt with as time allows, when there is no longer a single doobie left in Dexter. Good luck with that chief, you go boy! lol.

  2. This reminds me of an incident in which an ex’s current wife drove onto my property, proceeded to repeatedly drive her vehicle back and forth across a few articles in my yard, flashed me the finger and sped away. When the police stopped her, she was as high as a kite and the vehicle contained several articles of drug paraphenalia. If you’re going to get wasted, at LEAST have the sense to not blatantly break another law! :D

  3. If I was a Police officer I would have given her a speeding ticket. a pass on the pot  and made him take all the pills with a bottle of water.

  4. Who writes these headlines? The car was obviously not speeding at the time it was searched, though it does sound more exciting when written that way. More accurately, a car was searched after it was stopped for speeding.
