BANGOR, Maine — Police say the park on Second Street has posed a problem in dealing with public drinking, but they were able to arrest a man with a lengthy criminal history there Wednesday.
Gerard Godin, 56, a Bangor transient, was hanging out with another transient around 8:55 a.m. at the park, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.
The problem was, Godin was allegedly consuming alcohol, an infraction the sergeant said has prompted police to patrol the area heavily and keep their eyes out for public intoxication.
Godin was placed under arrest and charged with consuming alcohol in public, according to Edwards.
Godin’s criminal history dates back to 1992, according to court archives printed in the Bangor Daily News.
Godin’s rap sheet includes an arrest on Christmas Eve in 2010 for domestic violence assault.
Godin was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later released on bail.

So what do we have in the headlines today. transient with weapon, transient drunk ,transient this, transient that. I know the goody 2shoes of this city think we need homeless shelters but look what they are doing. You don’t see these locals inviting the homeless into their homes do you? Close down the shelters and they will leave and go back south where they belong.
I thought the transients might migrate south for the winter. I guess the wonderful shelters have attracted them like cats to scraps.
Why migrate? Free food, free bed, methadone, bath salts, and when it gets cold, you can get a free night in the jail or the hospital. the police know all these guys by name yet they still roam our streets.
The city had to remove public benches in our town because the transients took them over, drinking on them, sleeping on them, and hassling shoppers from them. It’s a wonder that the bums didn’t steal the benches, but that would have required that they exert some form of effort.
The guy was harming no one. So why waste the time and money arresting this guy?
For all u know he could be a pedo waiting for the next child to walk through.
I’d rather see the cops spend time handing out tickets for red light running than bothering homeless people but what do I know
