BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor transient was charged with theft on Wednesday morning after he stole a bottle of liquor from a local supermarket, police said.

Ronald Robinson, 55, who is no stranger to police in Penobscot and Hancock Counties, according to Bangor Daily News archives, left the Hannaford supermarket on Union Street without paying for a bottle of Absolut vodka, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

When store security attempted to question Robinson, he fled the scene and took off into the area behind the Airport Mall, according to Edwards.

Once Bangor police Officer Joe Baillageron was able to respond, Robinson cooperated and handed over the vodka, the sergeant said.

Police were going to arrest Robinson, but found he had an unspecified medical condition, Edwards said, and was released on a summons for theft after being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Robinson’s rap sheet includes charges of theft earlier this month, while Ellsworth police dealt with him in 2001 for criminal trespass after a tent city in that city was raided, and again in 2003 on drug charges.

  1. It’s time for someone to step up and get this man the help he needs. He’s obviously living desperately.

    1. Feel free to visit him and offer your support.  Try offering food or money in exchange for chores around your place and see how appreciative he will be.

  2. Did the state police tactical team show up?  Are you guys at BDN just trolling with these pointless stories or what?  This is newsworthy…???

  3. Ah, another great bum from the city of transients.  How do they even manage to live as long as they do?
