AUBURN, Maine — A 15-year-old girl reported missing from her grandmother’s home in early October was returned there Friday, police said.
Opal R. Swearingen had a history of running away, police said.
Authorities issued a missing persons alert earlier in the week. Evidence had shown she had returned to her grandmother’s home a short while after she went missing to retrieve personal items, police said. For that reason, they believed she was in the immediate area.
Swearingen was the subject of a missing persons police investigation earlier this year after she and 30-year-old Charles Fontenot of Lewiston refused to return home for nearly a month, police said. Fontenot is in jail.
On Friday, at roughly 5 p.m., she was found near her father’s home in this city. She was then returned to her grandmother’s home.

If she doesn’t want to be there she’s just going to leave again. Been through that with my own daughter when she was younger. You can bring them home a hundred times but they will just leave again. Eventually the authorities won’t bother getting involved.
Why is this minor girls name put in the paper for running away? I can understand the pedeophiles name being published, as he is in jail for what ever reason.
It sounds like she is a chronic runner. What I would ask is if she is running from something or to something?
What’s that supposed to mean?
Is there an APB out for this child??
If she is a juvenile she shouldnt have her name published.
Her name was released to the public when she was reported missing. If it is a follow up, then they are permitted to release the name.
I hope someone takes the time to figure out WHY she is running. She’s living with her grandmother instead of her father, for a reason. Does she understand that reason, or is she blaming her grandmother for something she doesn’t entirely understand?
