BANGOR, Maine — A local woman wanted on a warrant wound up with a drug charge last week as the result of the Bangor Police Department’s ongoing investigation into local drug activity.
July Miller, 39, of Bangor was arrested on Oct. 23 after Bangor police Officer Taylor Bagley, who is assigned to the police department’s Special Enforcement Team, encountered her while investigating suspected drug activity in the Willow Street area.
When Bagley ran Miller’s name through a law enforcement database, he learned that Miller was wanted on a warrant and placed her under arrest. During a subsequent search, Bagley found two Concerta pills for which Miller did not have a prescription.
The drug is often used to treat attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Just getting to last weeks news here?
ADD and ADHD–a fake illness that profits the pharmaceuticals and destroys our neighborhoods.
I wish I could give more likes on this one. It makes drug addicts out of young people and when they get of age the drugs get shut off and you know the rest of the story.
I hated taking my ritalin as a child. However as an Adult, there was a time when I revisited Ritalin and it was helpful in allowing me to accept information in meetings and business dealings instead of forgetting what wass being said because a bird flew by the window. I dont take it now because I believe it is kinda rough on my old body. I have never had an addictive personality. Just dont seem to mind either way. As long as I can think and be present.
ADHD is NOT a fake “illness”. I have a son, who when he was younger, was diagnosed with this disorder. With the correct medical treatment, such as meds and counselling, it can be controlled! It’s also something that can be outgrown, as time goes on. Just like other medications, it can be abused…..but not always. Maybe you should do some research on ADD and ADHD before you make a comment such as yours!
Suit yourself. I stand by my comments. Did you know that placebos also work just as well? Explain that.
Back in the day our principal had the cure for ADHD, it was called the “board” of education. Every kid in my school learned to sit down and shut up in less than 3 sessions. I think everybody graduated just fine.
I am not opposed to occassional, reasonable spanking. My children were spanked a few times and they grew up to become respectful, hard working adults, but they also didn’t have learning disabilities. I grew up “in the day” when it was legal and common place for teachers to hit children of all ages with whatever they may have in their hands. My first memory of kindergarten was being slapped across the face and knocked out of my desk, by the teacher, because I was whispering to the kid behind me. I was hit with hands, books, rulers, pointers, and yardsticks at least once a week, all through school. It didn’t quiet me down or help me concentrate. It made me angry, more defiant, and more active. I am not against all older ways of doing things, but children and adults need to be looked at as individuals. What may work with one might never work with another, physically, emotionally, or mentally. By the way, I did graduate, barely, and because I learned to hate school, I didn’t go to college until my 30’s, where I obtained an Engineering degree with the help of medication and not the “board.” :)
Spankings are sometimes helpful for assisting an ADHD kid in recovering from an uncontrollable emotional behavioral episode if you can spank the kid without having to chase and physically overwhelm the child. I only reccomend spanking if your child knows that it will help the child to save itself from the impulsive behavior that is in charge at the time. Generally, Spanking the ADHD Kid is just an exercise in futility. They have to take ownership and solve their wn problems which comes with learning and practice. Teach your children well.
The mind is a powerful thing. A person can convince themselves to believe anything if they want to believe it badly enough, that doesn’t mean what they believe is actually true.
You just described ADD and ADHD. Nice to see that you actually do have common sense when presented with FACTS.
That’s NOT what ADD and ADHD is! LOOK IT UP! Educate yourself.
Placebos do not work on every single person in this country for every single disease out there. Ridiculous.
Placebos dont work. Give an ADHD kid Placebos and a very small percentage of symptoms will be slightly reduced however coping skills are developed that help over time. Even with Placebos, The child with ADHD will fail socially and academicly and the result will be a history of failurs and feelings of seperation resulting in poor self esteem and depression. Think of ADHD as a Gateway Illness. Treat it and Reinforce positive social skills. In closing, I wouldnt want to take your opinion away, If is your birthright to be happy and enjoy your feelings and mind. So if this makes you happy believing that ADHD is fake then Right On Brother. Life is good. Take care. I feel like I have done right by you. I feel good too. Peace
Absolutely wrong with reference to ADD and ADHD. But big pharma will hide the evidence from you.
There has been many, many, young people, mostly boys being diagnosed with ADHD. It is much easier to throw a pill down their throat than deal with the issues at hand. Do some need treatment and benefit? Of course, but as many that are currently being diagnosed? No way! It has become an epidemic, almost a rite of passage these days. What a joke.
Where are your FACTS that ADHD is a fake illness?? Maybe you should read EVERYTHING that is on that link that you posted. Everything, such as alternative medicine, tests and diagnosis, causes, definition…….read it ALL, before making your lame allegations. ADHD is NOT a one size fits all disorder.http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/adhd/DS00275
READ IT AGAIN…..ALL OF IT!
so tell us Dr. Tom..does that mean those needing Chemotherapy can just avoid all of that nonsense and start taking Placebos because you, as an expert of course, says it isnt needed?
If your an expert on ADHD then you must know all about Cancer as well..please enlighten us on your powerful Oz knowledge.
My reference to placebos was only in relation to the pseudo disorders of ADHD and ADD.
People get high off of cold medicine…so by your definition, the young neighbor kid is a mad scientist and created his own fake drippy yellow snot? There are always going to be a few bad apples mixed into an otherwise respectable orchard, doesn’t make REAL illnesses FAKE. You’re the type of person I wouldn’t think twice to saying, “I wish you knew what it was like to have your mind run away leaving your body in its dust”. I know a lot of people with such a LEGITIMATE illness, and it’s sad to watch them try and gather a thought long enough to make sense of it. Shame on you for poking fun at those less fortunate than you, though I wouldn’t consider any one of your intelligence as “fortunate”, Rather, I should feel badly for you being so uneducated, but instead I feel badly for others having to listen to you regurgitate your ignorance. Do yourself a favor and pick up a book. Life goes beyond blogging, don’t catch yourself getting b…. slapped by real life.. you might learn something after all. Best wishes in furthering your education.
Bravo! The best comment of the day for sure!
Do you really believe what you are saying? Do you know anything about Brain Matter and Early Childhood Development? I am just curious because This is something that is a tremendous problem for a lot of people. They are wired for a different type of lifestyle to say the least. The adage Hunter in the farmers world comes to mind. Concerta Helps People with ADHD and ADHD is not a fake Illness. It wouldn’t take much research to conclude this for yourself Mr T.
Listen, each person is “wired” differently than others. I object to the world we’re headed to, where every single person has a disability because each of us responds differently to stimuli around us. “Are you depressed?” Take a pill, you have a disorder. WHO ISN’T DEPRESSED if they are alive? “Are you anxious?” Can’t sit still, don’t like to concentrate on the subjects you don’t like? Hey, welcome to the world. ADHD and ADD are used to describe a collection of observed behaviors–that’s what these “disorders” are, pure and simple. So we give kids powerful drugs. Good luck with that. Like I said in another posting–if you overeat and get fat, you can now take a pill to make you thin (Alli) but it doesn’t address the real issue (overeating).
BTW, William Blake would have been diagnosed as ADD or ADHD and if given ritalin, probably wouldn’t have given us Paradise Lost, his watercolors, of Songs of Innocence or any other of his works of poetry or art. I wonder how many other potential artists are being smothered in the name of convention or convenience for parents, teachers, and to financially benefit big pharma.
Hey everybody did you know world renouned nuerologist and top physician tom caterwaul has found the treatment for all mental illness and deficit disorders “SUGAR”!!!!! All pharmacutical drugs have sky rocketed, asthma meds, insulin for diabetes and rises in autism meds! Just because doctors and pharma prey on society to make them richer doesnt mean these illnesses dont exist or are fake. Our population is rising people, there are more people being born than are dying so naturally there is going to be more people and more health issues. Wen you have a child banging their head off the floor and spinning around in circles and cant concentrate and you give them focalin and an hour later they can sit and color and can play a game and be a kid without crawling in their own skin, Ive worked with these kids NOTHING FAKE ABOUT IT, SIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW! A lot of comments deleted! Why? There was a discussion going on. Most of them were not rude and some rather informative! I even had comments on here about my son having ADHD and they’re gone!
I was just noticing the same thing – where are all of the other comments? It couldn’t be because there were too many comments – there were only about 55, – some stories have 200 – 300 comments. It was a good discussion – interesting comments. Too bad. Maybe they didn’t like my comment about the cat and the garden hose. Ha – Ha.
I don’t know what’s going on. Even my comment about the fire department is still here……I thought for sure that would get deleted. Prob will now! :P
BDN: What is going on???
Can’t Fix Stupid is gone. The comment monitors have no sense of humor. :(
I think the very first comment on this blog should be removed. That’s what got everything going on this………or just shut the blog down to any further comments. Talk to ya on another one, irish. :P
hhmmmm check this one out. http://bangor-launch.newspackstaging.com/2012/10/30/news/down-east/washington-county-corrections-officer-assaulted-during-jail-perimeter-check/
Bill Cat……..tomcaterwaul…….
Very interesting re: Bill Cat. Similar attitude. You could be right. Hope our path will cross again.
Hope you get your life back on track July!
Hmm, I guess that’s why it’s called dope. Got a warrant going, known by the cops by sight if not by name and still gonna hang around a dope area. DOPE!
There was no ADD or ADHD or EIEIO during my 12 years in public school — ’60-’72 — and I never knew anybody diagnosed with psych problems or take anything more than penicillin. Ain’t saying our world was better or worse, just saying there were no such drugs or kids in need of them. It’s a sure bet that Big Pharma goes to great lengths to create a market for its products, proven time and again with bribes and prizes for MDs and bunk studies paid for to make a bad drug sound good. Likely three out of twenty kids who take this re-formulated speed actually need it, and for the rest it’s just a chemical babysitter.
