DOVER-FOXCROFT – Dorothy E. Gray, 92, died Oct. 28, 2012, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. She was born Dec. 10, 1919, in Dover-Foxcroft, daughter of Clair H. and Effie M. (Foster) Gray.
A graduate of Foxcroft Academy, class of 1938, she had lived most of her life on the Gray farm. Dot owned and operated T&K Store, Dover-Foxcroft, until it burned. She then worked at Judkins’ Shop ‘n Save for 30 years. A very active member of her church and community, she was a member of Garden Club and Junior Cosmopolitan Club. She was a longtime member of Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, where she had served as deaconess and was the founder of the “Kitchen Crew.” In recent years she helped in the Congregational church nursery, where she was “Aunt Dot” to another generation of children. Dot was very proud that she was a member of the first volunteer class for Pine Tree Hospice. She was noted for her baking and her vegetable and flower gardens. She maintained many of the town’s flower gardens as well. She was a special friend to many and always willing to help in any way she could.
She is survived by a niece, Donna Hathaway of Dover-Foxcroft; two great-nieces, Sue Karleskint and husband, Ken, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Nancy Seavey and husband, Jonathan, of Dover-Foxcroft; seven great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Jen Seavey, Mike Pina, Cailin Seavey, Austin Seavey, Katie Karleskint, Evan Seavey and Molly Karleskint; cousin, Wilma Andrews; two very special friends, Phyllis Weatherbee and Martha Schwarz; and special neighbors, Elizabeth Donaghy, Clifford and Zachary Neece. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Libby and husband, Merle; brother, Foster Gray and wife, Theodora; a beloved nephew, David Libby; and a special friend of many years, Elbridge Weston.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church with the Rev. Chad Poland officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Gray Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Pine Tree Hospice, 883 W.
