STANDISH – Joanne T. Wallace, 76, formerly of Newburgh of 45 years, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Maine Medical Center, Portland. She was born July 17, 1936, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of Charles and Ethel Bendall Trunnell Sr.
Joanne graduated with the class of 1954 at Suitland High School, Forestville, Prince George’s County, Md. She met her husband of 52 1/2 years, Stanley E. Wallace Jr. while he was in the service. They later settled in Newburgh, where they built a home and raised two sons. She worked for many years in the Hampden school district as secretary in the superintendent’s office and library. Joanne participated for many years in Star of the East Chapter No. 17, Order of the Eastern Star, Hampden. She served in many positions, such as committee on by-laws in 1973, associate conductress from 1974 to 1975, and worthy matron in 1977. She traveled across country with her WIBC bowling team, participating in many bowling tournaments. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, spending time with her granddaughters and vacationing in Bermuda with her husband. She was able to take the trip of a lifetime to Alaska in 2001 with her husband, Stan, which lasted four months. Joanne and her husband were longtime members of Hermon Baptist Church.
Joanne was predeceased by her husband July 1, 2012; and parents, Charles Sr., in 1988, and Ethel, in 2002. She is survived by two sons, Charles Wallace and wife, Sharon, and their two daughters, Megan and Amanda, of Buxton, and Stephen Wallace and wife, Christine, and their two daughters, Courtney and Lauren of Standish; brother, Charles Trunnell Jr. of Washington, D.C.; sister, Peggy Trunnell Dennison and husband, Wayne, of Naples, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Hermon Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hermon Baptist Church, 2496 Route 2, Hermon, ME 04401. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
