THOMASTON, Maine — The Thomaston planning board gave its approval Tuesday night to construction of three large fuel storage tanks in town.

The board voted unanimously to approve the plan by Fabian Oil Inc. of Oakland for the tanks to be located at 68 Butler Road. The Butler Road is located on the south side of Buttermilk Lane with the tanks to be on property in back of the Dragon Products cement plant.

Thomaston Assessors Agent David Martucci said the plan calls for two 20,000-gallon underground liquid fuel tanks and a 30,000-gallon aboveground propane storage tank to be located there. He said the aboveground tank will be about 7 feet taller than the tanker trucks that will come in there to be be filled.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection and the Maine Fuel Board must still give approval before construction begins, Martucci said.

Construction at the site is expected to begin before the end of the year, he said.

Fabian Oil purchased Montgomery Oil of South Thomaston last year.

  1. Be very careful in your dealings with Fabian Oil. They do not have the greatest reputation in the Winslow area and from what I am hearing their reputation in the Rockland/Thomaston area is not any better. Then again, what oil company does have a good reputation these days!
