VEAZIE, Maine — Police were called to the Stucco Lodge on Sunday morning to deal with a resident of the motel who was upset with the owners, Veazie Police Chief Mark Leonard said Wednesday.

Gary R. Benson II, 55, was “yelling and screaming at the owner and his wife” when police arrived at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, the chief said.

“He had taken a phone from his room and he ultimately ended up throwing it in the pool,” Leonard said.

Benson was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct by Officer Paul Haslam, who was assisted by Orono police Sgt. Scott Scripture. The police report did not indicate why Benson was upset, Leonard said.

Benson, who also was barred from returning to the Stucco Lodge, was taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.

He was previously convicted of assault and criminal mischief and sentenced in July 2007 to 72 hours in jail, according to prior court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  2. He is 55 years old, but still the little boy throwing a tantrum in the middle of the aisle at the grocery store.

  3. I can’t believe the heartless comments.  Give him a bit more compassion.  He was obviously trying to call his anger management therapist.
