WATERVILLE, Maine — A man with a lengthy rap sheet and two warrants for his arrest is facing more charges after his girlfriend told officers he threatened her, according to police.
Police received an anonymous tip that Steven Shaw, 26, of Waterville, who had warrants from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office for burglary and theft, had been staying at a Kelsey Street apartment, according to Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.
When police arrived at the residence at 3 p.m. on Halloween, a woman informed them that Shaw had threatened her.
Officers found Shaw hiding inside a kitchen cabinet, and found a single-shot, .22-caliber rifle in the attic and 2½ methadone pills in Shaw’s pockets, Rumsey said.
In addition to the warrants, Shaw is facing charges of possession of firearm by a felon and domestic violence terrorizing, both Class C felonies, and unlawful possession of a scheduled drug, a Class D misdemeanor, according to Rumsey.
Shaw, who has burglary convictions from 2006 and 2009, was booked into the Kennebec County Correctional Facility, where he remained Friday.

Nope, Methadone is not a problem here in Maine. Everyone uses it according to directions. Yup.
Nope, guns are not a problem here in Maine. Everyone uses them according to directions. Yup.
Just for reference… the firearm was found in the attic. Going to hazard a guess the charge was just tacked on because they could. Because he was on in the same building with it. That charge will probably be dropped, they just wanted to bring it while they could. Unless the woman told police that the threat involved the firearm.
Either way, your statement is a logical response to yawdem, but obviously both comments are facetious.
Outstanding job Waterville PD! While the key question is why would any woman under any circumstance be a girlfriend or even an aquaintance of a fool such as this, it is my hope (once again) that the prosecutor and the judge have the sense and the ethics to require jail without bail until trial and conviction (and additional jail time) of this dude. He is a repeat offender and a significant risk to human life. Period. And it only takes individuals with IQ’s at or above 52 to agree on that without regard to political beliefs or bleeding hearts toward repeat criminals.
You have hit the basis for many of my questions on the nail. So many women want sympathy (and taxpayer support) when they become “single moms” but so many of them choose losers like this guy. What is up with this trend?
Sure gives a whole to meaning to “trick or treat.”
