SACO, Maine — Saco and Maine State Police are investigating the beating of a homeless Portland woman who was found critically injured Saturday morning in a motel room.
Elizabeth Williams, 55, was found by cleaning staff at the Sunrise Motel on Route 1 and rushed to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland. She died at the hospital Sunday afternoon, he said.
The state Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on Williams’ body on Monday, McCausland said.
“We are now looking to to the medical examiner for answers as to how she died,” McCausland said.
He said in a press release issued Sunday afternoon that detectives are working to gather evidence from the room and are talking to anyone who had contact with Williams since Friday.
Police have spoken with the man who rented the motel room, he said.
Do you think that any of that justifies beating her up? Because there is no justification for this. He has no right to beat her up in response to this supposed theft. It is not up to him to be a vigilante but to call the police. This is what police are for, to arrest people who break the law.
Didn’t say a word about justifying anything. In fact, wasn’t anything sounded legit about the entire situation from the time they got the key, in my humble opinion. Just tossed out a couple of potential reasons why it happened. That’s okay with you, right? =)
Thank you for pointing out a need to edit my comments. I did not intend to imply that the police role is to beat up homeless women. What I intended to say is that police are for dealing with incidents of stealing rather than taking matters into your own hands, in this case literally. If in fact Bill Cat’s scenario is even what happened.
Hell, in some states the cops just shoot homeless folks and make excuses later on…

Unbelievable! You have people ready to kill because a dumb dog gets killed yet here you have a human being that was beat to death and we have “homeless people get abused ok”. Priorities are really out of whack in this world especially most of you meatballs.
