OLD TOWN – Jean S. Leahy, 75, died unexpectedly Nov. 3, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Sept. 27, 1937, in Bangor, the daughter of Geneva (LeBlanc) Oliver and stepdaughter of Lloyd Oliver.
Jean graduated as one of the top students in her class from Old Town High School, class of 1954. Jean was a loving and devoted wife for 54 years to Richard W. Leahy. Jean and Dickie loved spending time together and especially enjoyed many vacations traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Upon graduation from high school at the age of 16, Jean worked briefly for WABI before beginning work as an administrative assistant under four different superintendents of school in the Old Town School System for over the next 41 years. She was a tireless, dedicated employee who was highly respected for her integrity and proficiency at her craft.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert Sawyer of Old Town and Florida; niece, Judith Sawyer of Old Town; and in-laws, Kenneth and Dorothy Dewitt of Old Town and Clearwater, Fla. Jean is survived by her husband, Richard; her very special nephew, Bobby Sawyer of Kittery; niece, Sue Fox and her husband, Bob, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother-in-law, James Dewitt and his wife, Gwen, of Ellsworth; sisters-in-law, Joyce Smith and her husband, Del, of Winter Haven, Fla., Barbara DeCastro of Belleair, Fla., Betty Emery of Newburgh and Deborah Hambright of Florida; several aunts, uncles and cousins. A special note of appreciations is given to Jean’s cousin and wife, Don and Jane Sturgeon, and their daughter, Donna Conary, for all the support and assistance that was given to her and Dickie throughout the years and especially during their recent health problems.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be held at a later date. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Reception Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
