LEWISTON, Maine — Police are investigating whether the robberies of two local pharmacies on Sunday were connected.

“There were two pharmacies robbed today,” Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said, “which brings the total for the year to, I think, 50” throughout the state.

Police are not releasing any details about an armed robbery at the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Lisbon Street, in which prescription drugs were stolen. Police have not released any details about the crime, including the time it occurred, and it is unclear whether the perpetrators were identified or apprehended.

Around 1 p.m., according to McCausland, the Rite Aid on West Gray Road in Gray was also robbed of prescription drugs. Weapons were again involved. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crime, though they have not released any information about the incident.

Authorities are “looking at any similarities” between the robberies, said McCausland, because “there’s some suspicion they may be connected.”

Employees from both Rite Aid locations said they were not allowed to speak about the incidents.

The Lewiston Police Department did not respond to requests for information, and members of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached for comment.

  1. This is getting ridiculous.  Somebody is going to have to be killed before anything is really done about these problems and then the hindsight will say it shouldn’t have been let go so long.  This isn’t the wild west.  Give them rat poison next time for all I care, these people aren’t victims they are felons.

  2. Rizzz You are 100% right … personally I think it has gone beyond ridiculous. It is amazing that someone has not been killed already. I maybe wrong but from the information I have gathered it appears as though the majority of the robberies were at Rite-Aid pharmacies.  Perhaps an investigation needs to be focused on that particular  chain.

  3. we need to arm our Pharmacist so they can protect themselves……and splatter a few of these scumbag pillheads all over the floor……before innocent people are hurt……Maine so needs Capital Punishment…(Electric Chair) would be nice…….Methadone clinics…….what a joke!

    1. Your splatterer broke today?  Anything stopping you?  Just another Keyboard Kommando mouthing-off, eh?  LOL

    2. Yeah… the pharmacists really want to splatter pillheads all over the floor. WE… don’t need to arm them, THEY… can arm themself’s if they choose. Neither Rite-Aid, or it’s customers, want shoot outs in their stores, innocent people could be hurt, and the cops always get em. After that is the big problem. You could be right on the meth clinics.

      1. someday, someone will walk into a Pharmacy and they will find Pharmacist….assistant…cashier…and a few customers all shot to death…..because some desperate pill head……didn’t want to leave witnesses.
Yes i say train and arm the Pharmacist to shoot to kill……then these scumbags will think twice about robbing a pharmacy.
Better yet Riteaid should have armed security on duty at all times…..but that might cut into their precious profits.

  4. Maybe, a HUGH FLASHING RED LIGHT, seem from a distance should be on top of all drug stores. When therer is a robbery taking place, the store employees coud trigger the light ON, then, anyone outside could see the action of get-away… and provide important information to the police.
