BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police are looking for a man who robbed the Luttrell’s Corner Mini-Mart at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon, Lt. Steve Hunt said from the robbery scene.
The suspect, described as around 6 feet tall, in his 20s and wearing what appeared to be a black Hannaford jacket, robbed the store at about 2:10 p.m., the lieutenant said.
“He walked in and tossed a paper bag — not a new one, a used paper bag — across the counter, and said, ‘Money in the bag,’” said Brent Alley, a store manager who was behind the counter. “I didn’t say this, but in my mind I said, ‘I guess we’re going to do this.’ I got up off my stool and took the paper bag and put money in it.”
The man displayed a black handgun with a clip, said Alley, who added he knows “nothing about guns.”
“Police think it might have been a Glock,” he said.
When the man thought the paper bag was full enough, he grabbed it out of Alley’s hands and left the store, located at 554 Union St.
“I won’t even know until tomorrow for sure” how much money was taken, said Alley, who has been an employee for nearly a decade.
Police think the armed man got into a gray PT Cruiser-type vehicle after leaving the mini-mart, which is located at the corner of Union and Fourteenth streets. The vehicle was last seen headed west on Fourteenth.
Police arrived quickly to the scene and had a canine unit searching for the robber. They also took video surveillance camera images from the store, Alley said.
The mini-mart was closed for approximately one hour, he said. Afterward, regular customers and others entered the store trying to get the story about what happened.
“I pretty much have been telling them pretty much what I just told you,” said Alley, who admitted around 4:30 p.m. that he still had a “couple butterflies, but nothing major.”
“This is the first time the store has been robbed and they’ve been here close to 20 years,” the longtime employee said.
As of 4:45 p.m., Bangor police had not arrested anyone in connection with the robbery, Lt. Tom Reagan said.

I don’t understand, convenience stores don’t sell pain pills…
Bee-ah, Dee-ah, Bee-ah
No? Some Dunkin Donuts do.
No, but with the Rite Aid next door now having security on site, the loser druggies just moved next door to Luttrell’s. We need a few robbers to catch a bullet from an armed citizen behind the counter.
“We need a few robbers to catch a bullet from an armed citizen behind the counter.”
Generally, more innocent people are hurt when a ‘good samaritan’ tries to fight back. The motive of a robber is to rob, not to shoot or kill unless they encounter a “problem”. So if your instinct is to shoot, don’t forget to think about the innocent people around.
IMHO, best thing to do would be discretely dial 911 and be a good witness.
” Bangor police are looking for a man described to be in his 20s ”

but it’s not “PC” to describe someone’s actual ethnicity or skin color. meanwhile, an armed criminal is on the LOOSE & the public is completely unable to identify him!
common sense, people… common sense…
yeah right!!! like did he have one tooth….
ya it was gold
Better yet, BDN should be posting pictures from the video cameras of the armed robbers, then they can be posted on Facebook. Chances are someone on facebook would see them and know them. Facebook can be a great crime fighting tool too!
What in the frig is happening to that neck of the woods?! I used to work right near there, would walk around on my break and it was so nice. This was less than 10 years ago… So sad :(
two words
“hopeless house” .
10 yrs ago the meth clinics opened…one came for help bringing along many friends and family still actively using…so now our once lovely little town is polluted….the payoff to the town is federal tax dollars and jobs at the clinic….oh…and the slumlords get to fill their previously vacant apartments with addicts which are supported by the city welfare, foodstamps, and Medicaid, along with their monthly disability check which buys more drugs to keep them addicted…at least the town is getting property tax dollars from the slumlords….that is the payoff.
Guess the security across the street at Rite Aid isn’t terribly threatening.
thats what i was thinking
Threatening enough that it hasn’t been robbed since they put security in.
LOL The guy was baked and missed the pharmacy !
again they wont say he’s black and driving a pt common everyone get ready for the scum heading this way from nj ny ect.we will be mass prettysoon if bdn has its way they love it more horror stories to report.
He was covered almost entirely from head to toe which is why a description is difficult.
Covered from head to toe ?
Was this person wearing a burkha , or what ?
It reminded me of what they wear in the desert on their head. Kind of like a curtain covering his face except his eyes. He had on rose tinted goggles, as well. And gloves.
It was probably a displaced Shaw’s associate who wore the Hannaford Jacket just to throw the PD off:)
ah stupid there bunch of guns out there with a clip that is not a glock dummies
