BANGOR, Maine — A steel plate in the middle of Ohio Street has Bangor Daily News readers wanting it removed, according to the See It, Fix It feature on the BDN website.
According to readers, the steel plate, which is located near the Thomas Hill Standpipe, extends four to six inches above the roadway.
The plate is on the inbound side of Ohio Street.
Readers have reported plenty of other problems. Among them are a tree that is blocking the view of traffic at the Cony traffic circle in Augusta; the need for a sidewalk from the Bangor Mall intersection to Stillwater Avenue on Hogan Road in Bangor; potholes on Call Road in Milford; and an abandoned trailer on Route 15 in Shirley.
Other problems include a bumpy Route 69 from Plymouth to Detroit; a damaged drain at the intersection of Moosehead Trail and High Street in Newport; pedestrians ignoring a crosswalk on Route 15 in Dover-Foxcroft near the Riverview apartment complex; and a destroyed roadbed at the corner of Franklin and Harlow streets in Bangor.

And who was the genius contractor was that painted new white lines and narrowed up Kenduskeag Ave by 18 inches on each side of the road? Instead of painting over the white line with black paint they used a pavement stripper and made a 4 inch groove in the middle of their nice new pavement to dig up the white line.

… resulted in a pitiful three sentences … that -vaguely- mention the plate … then said -nothing- further that pertained to the subject and its background – or ANY pertinent investigation into the matter … but -instead- then wandered around into other Fix-It topics.
Perhaps Ryan McLaughlin could somehow manage to learn to use -meaningful- titles … OR to write articles that actually SAY something -functional- about the (widely) headlined topic … instead of -falsely- luring people into this pitiful -excuse- for a “news” story.

Maybe there is a reason, like safety for pedestrians to ignore a crosswalk. Was it the pedestrians or drivers who decided where the cross walk should be? Both pay taxes……
Car drivers pay more taxes so roads are paved and wide enough for cars. Isn’t it a privilege to drive, not a right?
