MONCTON, New Brunswick – Mary Hilda (Fowler) Ryan died Oct. 31, 2012, in Moncton, New Brunswick. “Hilda,” as she was called, was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Orono, the daughter of Arthur Wellington Fowler and Lillian Graham Fowler.
For many years a Bangor resident, Hilda worked in the field of insurance, an employee of L.C. Tyler Insurance Agency before starting her own independent insurance agency. During World War II she worked as a draftsman at Bath Navy Yard. Hilda moved in 1972 to Canada, where she was very active in the creation of Senior Community Center, Hampton, New Brunswick.
She was predeceased by her parents; as well as her brothers, Joseph Fowler, John Fowler and Frank Fowler; sisters, Lillian Fowler – Sister Madonna, Margaret Fowler Waddell and Evelyn Fowler Hobbs; and husbands, John J. Nahra of Old Town, Charles St. Lawrence of Bangor and Bernard Ryan of Hampton, New Brunswick. Hilda is survived by her sister, Theresa Woznik of Eddington; daughter, Nancy Nahra of Burlington, Vt.; son, Si Nahra of Plymouth, Mich.; son, Frank St. Lawrence of Calgary, Alberta; and grandchildren, Lucy Randall, Charlie Nahra, Sandy Nahra and Taylor St. Lawrence.
Services were held at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home, Moncton, New Brunswick. The family suggests that anyone wishing to do so may make a donation in Hilda’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
