ORONO, Maine — A Bangor woman who crashed her car into the gate of an Orono apartment complex was arrested and charged with operating under the influence early Saturday, police said.

Kayla Willigar, 22, crashed her vehicle into the entry gate of The Grove on Park Street after dropping a friend off at the complex around 2:41 a.m., according to Orono police Sgt. Scott Lajoie.

Security notified police after Willigar’s vehicle hit the gate, causing damage to her fender on the driver’s side and the driver’s side mirror, as well as a flat tire, the sergeant said. Security also told police that Willigar reeked of alcohol.

Willigar told police she had consumed two beers at a bar in Bangor before dropping her friend off, according to Lajoie. However, she was unsteady on her feet during field sobriety tests, the sergeant said.

Police placed Willigar under arrest and took her to the Penobscot County Jail, where she was later released on bail, Lajoie said. The gate had minor damage.
