AUGUSTA, Maine — Regulations that are believed to impede business growth will be the topic at a public meeting in Portland.
The Maine Regulatory Fairness Board is inviting public testimony on regulatory and statutory issues that impact Maine businesses, at its meeting on Friday at the Portland library.
The board is holding hearings across the state to invite testimony that highlights regulations in need of a closer look or changes.
The Legislature last session passed a regulatory reform law aimed at reducing red tape and unreasonable regulations, but the effort continues to enhance Maine’s business climate.
The Board is chaired by Secretary of State Charlie Summers and has four members who are, or have been, business owners or operators.

“Business rules that impede growth” or “Businss rules that impede business’ power to shift the costs of business growth onto our society and natural world”?
“Growth” is neither necessarily good, nor an entitlement.

growth is an inherent component of evolution and if you accept the premise that human beings are part of the natural world, our actions (i.e. business) will inherently involve growth……where else do you think human technological developments (i.e. evolution) are derived?
All regulations do is put he costs of doing business back on the business not on the taxpayer.

Acme Business makes a product that create pollutants. With regulations they have to take care of the pollutants adding that cost to their product. If I buy their product I pay all the costs of creating that product, if I don’t buy the product I pay no costs of making that product.
Acme Business makes a product that creates pollutants, with no regulations requiring that Acme Business take care of their pollutants they release the pollutants into the atmostphere, groundwater, soil… then all taxpayers pay the cost of that pollutant being released into the environment thru increased healthcare, costs to taxpayer for cleaning up polluted water, soil and/or air, even if said taxpayer does not buy the product. Acme Business pays little or none of these costs increasing their profits but costing you and me more money.
Regulations do not impede growth. Sending all our jobs to China does. Should we deregulate Wall Street or tighten up the regulations? Should we let companies like BP just do what they want? Charlie Summers, Paul LePage, and the rest of the Koch heads want to go back to the laws of the old west when it comes to business. Anything goes and there is no law west of the Pecos.
