KITTERY, Maine — Three people from New York were arrested by police Friday afternoon for allegedly stealing approximately $8,000 worth of clothing merchandise from the Outlet Malls.
Isabel Pimental, 44, of Corona, N.Y., Paola Castillo, 46, also of Corona, and Oscar I Mosquera, 33, of Briarwood, N.Y., were each charged with a Class C felony of receiving stolen property following an investigation by police.
Police responded to the Outlet Malls on Friday at about 1 p.m. after a store manager reported suspicious activity and possible theft occurring within a department store, according to a press release issued by Kittery Chief Paul Callaghan.
Responding officers began an investigation and positioned themselves to monitor the Outlet Mall area.
As the officers began alerting other stores in the area, the suspects reportedly became nervous and stashed a portion of the stolen merchandise in a separate store where no thefts had taken place.
Kittery police subsequently arrested the three suspects after following the trio to their rented van.
All three suspects were held on $1,000 cash bail and are scheduled to appear in York County Superior Court on Dec. 27.

They must have thought that they could come to “backwoods” Maine and get away with stealing a van full of merchandise. Little did they know, we have the same type of security that they do in the “big city”. I am often amazed at how some people who live in big cities think that Maine is almost cut off from the rest of the country. While we may not have as many people, we do have the same technology and skills. I will never forget that when I was a kid in the summer, kids who would visit from California and other areas were amazed that I knew of the latest bands, movie stars, etc. It’s like they thought we didn’t have access to the rest of the world while living here.
People think they can fish without a license for the same reason. Little do they know that the warden service is everywhere.
I agree with you, they think Mainers are hayseeds. Next time maybe they’ll go to Canada, instead.

Seems to go right by these folks that there really ain’t a lot of folks named Pimintel, Castillo and Mosquera living up North, sort of like wearing a “Not From Around Here” tee shirt…
Maybe they should add to the sign that says, “Maine, open for business” -but not for shoplifters!
