STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine — Maine State Police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man by a homeowner in the coastal town of Stockton Springs early Saturday.

Spokesman Stephen McCausland of the Public Safety Department said David Linscott of Brooks was shot at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the front yard of a house owned by 36-year-old Robert Tucker along U.S. Route 1. Linscott died at the scene of a single gunshot wound. McCausland said Tucker shot the man after a confrontation, but would provide few other details because of an ongoing investigation.

“There are no charges at this time,” said McCausland on Saturday. “That will not change for the weekend. There is a lot more work to do to determine the circumstances of this event. [Linscott] arrived at the home with at least one other person. There was a confrontation between he and the homeowner.”

McCausland said at least one friend of Linscott’s was with him at the time of the shooting. A short time afterward, the friend was located in Searsport and interviewed by police, who found him because of other witnesses’ descriptions of his vehicle. McCausland said both Tucker and Linscott’s friend have been cooperative during the investigation.

McCausland said police do not know whether Tucker and Linscott knew each other. He expected investigators would spend all weekend doing interviews and collecting evidence, and that an autopsy would be performed by the Chief Medical Examiner’s office Sunday or Monday.

McCausland said on Sunday afternoon that there have been no new developments in the case.

    1. Sounds like someone has an anger management problem. The world wouldn’t need Anger Management if we had Stupidity Management.

        1. This guy seems to have found a solution. We didn’t used to have as much stupid when this was the more common fix.

    1. What do you mean, the Stockton, Searsport aera is usualy fairly quiet. Compared to many other areas of the state.

  1. I take it the man who died was beating the crap out of that Camry which means he had some sort of weapon and if he charged the home owner with said weapon or refused to stop beating the crap out of the Camry the home owner shot him.

    1. Well, detective, Steve McCausland and the Stockton police can call off the dragnet and enjoy a long Holiday week off now that you’ve solved this one. And you, back to CSI reruns.

      1. I don’t watch CSI or any of those other shows. I just used a little common sense to come to my conclusion and I might be wrong but I’m sure those busted windows have something to do with it.

    1. I agree.. thats what it looks like. Still, as Americans we have the right to protect our own lives and and property. But is a Toyota Camry worth a persons life? I dont think so. But there is still MUCH to learn about this case.If somebody smashed the windows out of my car.. I wouldn’t shoot them. But if they charged me full force with a baseball bat, I’d probably draw a firearm and fire low center. Apparently this person fired their weapon in a well placed area. One shot one kill. Wish they had more details… But either way…. I bet it was a STUPID fight, and some guy is dead… Not worth it.

      1. If someone is destroying or stealing your property it should be entirely legal to go out and put 3 in the hat. Defense of property should be as legal as defense of life.

It used to be that way before the bleeding hearts took over.

        1. Bleeding hearts, bloody wounds, blood vendetta, blood sacrifice (the red stripes on Old Glory, right?); we just love the idea of blood-letting don’t we? Ain’t it the bloody truth? “Three in the hat,” “one low and center”, “blow a hole big enough to kick a football through”….. and so it goes.

          1. Back when people were allowed to protect their property there was a lot less lawlessness and people were a lot more polite.

Or are you willing to just stand by and watch people steal your stuff?

        1. Likewise , everything is to the Westard if you are way Downeast.
Washington County , the other state of Maine.

  2. Why does the BDN have homicide in the headline when no charges have been filed? Maybe it was self defense

    1. Definition of homicide: “hom·i·cide . n. 1. The killing of one person by another. 2. A person who kills another person.”

Even if self-defense, it is still called a homicide.

        1. What “whole thing” are you referring to? Was there an extended altercation near the car, or did the deceased also have a weapon, or were they having a peaceful, friendly, visit up until the shooting, or was there money or drugs or a woman involved? What does your little brother have to say about it that we aren’t getting from the BDN article?

        2. If your little brother watched the whole thing that means he was THERE when it happened, so you just incriminated your little brother! Wonder if the 20+ cops that were there know about him?

  3. Lets play the weekly game show….Name that drug! Where contestants get a chance to post the drug that was involved with a shooting…..so go ahead, Name That Drug!

    1. I know! It seems there are always those that automatically count it up to drugs. Let’s see how many times bath salts or pot is said in these posts! You get those religious fanatics also that like to post their scripture as well!

  4. Whats wrong with this picture?

When a black guy in a southern Maine community shot someone on his property in the middle of the night, he was immediately charged and arrested, put in jail, convicted of murder, and has never seen the light of day since,

In ALL of Maine history, the only defendant to get life in jail for a crime that did not end in murder, was a black defendant.

Everyone complains drug dealers are always getting suspended sentences and a couple of years in jail at most. Except for a black drug dealer 3 years ago in Somerset County. A black drug dealer got 10 years jail.

Several years ago, a pregnant black female went to a store in Hancock County.
A group of white males harassed her,One white male actually kicking her to the ground. The white male took off before police arrived. He hid with friends for 3 days. He was charged for the assault , The other white males in the group outside the store, were never charged. The friends that hid the racist assaulter for 3 says, they were never charged for harboring a criminal.

      1. Did you read this:
“When a black guy in a southern Maine community shot someone on his property in the middle of the night, he was immediately charged and arrested”

    1. If you want to go that route, look at the pics of the criminals.Car jacking, drug dealing, etc. Are you saying that he only ones that get their pics in the paper are black?

      1. Maine judges are lenient and give out suspended sentences, except when a black face is the defendant, then Maine judges are no longer lenient and give out full and or harsher sentences.
How does that make me racist for pointing it out?

    2. What is the name of the black person you are referring to that shot someone on his porperty in the middle of the night? details please.

    3. I guess by the “facts” of your story it would be very stupid for any black person to move to the state of Maine, especially those considering perpetrating a crime. I am so sick of all this b.s. about how black people are targeted and the number of black people in jail is disproportionate to the percentage of black people in society. The reason there are so many black people in jail is because so many of them in our inner cities choose a life of crime. Now don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of black people who contribute way more to society than their white counterparts. It’s just that the population base is in the inner cities and this is where the majority of black people are involved in some sort of criminal element.

      1. I agree to a certain degree more blacks are in jail because a higher proportion of blacks commit crimes. But that is not my point.

My point are whites are getting slapped on the wrist treatment in Maine courtrooms by Maine judges and light treatment from the law, while the full extent of the law and the full extent of jail time is applied to black defendants. in Maine courts by Maine judges.

Apply the full treatment of the law and full extent of jail time to whites, and the validity of black racist Maine courtrooms and racist Maine judges can no longer be made.

        1. Wrong! How about the guy from Amity? He received three life sentences. You only see what you want to see!

          1. The Amity guy killed 3 people for life sentences.

A black male was given a life sentence in a Maine courtroom by a Maine judge for a crime that did NOT result in a death

Name one white person given a life sentence in a Maine courtroom by a Maine judge for a crime that did NOT include a death?

            You wont find one example.

          2. Right! Three life sentences for Three people,He would have gotten one for one person. Like I posted before. You only see what you want to see.

        2. I bet you believe that Whites who voted against Obama are racist and blacks who voted for him are not. I only say that because you base your conclusions off of so little evidence.

  5. So where’s Tucker now? Sitting at his house able to do this again to someone that may confront him about shooting their friend or relative? I’m just curious I dont see in the story that he was arrested or anything so?

    1. he has not been charged, therefore he in currently free.if any body confronts him about this at his home,i guess they get the Nov. darwin award

      1. well it would be rather stupid to go and confront him but some people ya know?…. I was just wondering thanks :)

    1. We can at least say he was a victim of the lead that came out of that barrel. We don’t have enough information yet to know if there was a victim at the other end of that gun.
