BANGOR, Maine — Police found a deceased man in a van parked outside St. Joseph Hospital early Sunday morning.

Police were dispatched to the hospital parking lot at 1:10 a.m. Sunday after a security guard checking on an idling van saw an unconscious male in the back of the vehicle.

Rescue crews broke out a window to get inside the van, but found the occupant had died.

Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday morning that the man’s identity is being withheld while the department’s Criminal Investigations Division and the state medical examiner’s office investigate.

“Some drug-related paraphernalia was found in the van and detectives are investigating to determine whether or not drugs played a role in the death,” Edwards said.
