WATERVILLE, Maine — An intoxicated Waterville man who was looking for a fight early Saturday wound up cooling off in jail, according to police.
Ryan Gormley, 21, was among a crowd of “about six people who were yelling and screaming at each other and trying to incite a fight” on the Concourse around 1:30 a.m., Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.
Gormley continued to yell after Waterville police Officer Josh Woods ordered the group to disperse, Rumsey said.
“They all [dispersed] except for him,” Rumsey said.
Woods decided he’d had enough after Gormley kept challenging people to a fight, placing him under arrest and charging him with failure to disperse, a Class D misdemeanor, Rumsey said.
The Concourse is a large parking lot in downtown Waterville, and several bars are located in the area.
Gormley was booked into the Waterville police station and later released on bail, Rumsey said. His court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 8.

It would’ve been much funnier if he’d been challenging people to a duel. Picture the police log. “1:30 AM Caller advises that unknown man, prob. intoxicated, struck him in the face with a glove and ‘demanded satisfaction’. Officers dispatched to investigate.”
Sometimes they actually get lucky and go to jail.
