HALLOWELL, Maine — Authorities looking for Maine’s former top drug prosecutor who disappeared following a federal appeals court decision upholding his conviction on child pornography charges have searched the home of the man’s ex-wife.

The Kennebec Journal reported that police searched the Hallowell home of Barbara Cameron on Tuesday in their nationwide manhunt for her ex-husband, James Cameron.

The 50-year-old James Cameron of Rome cut off his court-ordered electronic monitoring ankle bracelet and disappeared around midnight on Nov. 14, the same day the court upheld convictions on seven counts of sending, receiving and possessing child pornography while vacating convictions on six counts.

After the ruling, Cameron went to his ex-wife’s home and told his son that he was going back to jail, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Bangor.

    1. My guess is he pulled a Roman Pulanski. He’s had almost two years to plan it. He waved a jury trial hoping because of his prior occupation it would serve him well. And it did in that it allowed him to escape.

Although he was counting on getting all the charges dismiss because of the ‘brotherhood’ he belong to. The whole thing reeks of nepotism.

      A total sham of justice..

      1. The trial judge in Maine, John Woodcock, revoked his bail and ordered him held pending his appeal after he was sentanced to 16 years. The federal appeals court in Boston then ordered him released on bail pending his appeal. So you really can’t blame the trial judge here.

    2. My first thought as well. With any luck he has said good-bye to his son
and offed himself somewhere that didn’t make a big mess.
We would all be better served and save lots of $$$.

    1. It was the Feds who nailed him.
The state did nothing until the Feds crammed the evidence down their throat.
His employer, the office of Maine’s Attorney General claims it didn’t have a clue, even though he was using the state computer to collect the child porn.

  1. What a mess! I want to know why they didn’t go bang on his door at 12:46 am when his ankle bracelet went off the first time. Then I want to know why at 1:30 am when the device tried to connect with the ankle bracelet they didn’t go bang on his door. Child predators (whether online or not) need monitoring period.
