AVON, Maine — A man was killed early Thanksgiving morning in a collision on Route 4 that sent the victim’s vehicle into a utility pole in this Franklin County town northwest of Farmington.
Sgt. Aaron Hayden of the Maine State Police reported that Carlton Haggan, 38, of Strong was traveling north in a 1994 Ford Mustang and lost control of his car after passing two vehicles. The crash was reported at 5:45 a.m.
Hayden said Haggan’s car bounced off the side of the second of the two cars he was passing, left the road on the left and struck a utility pole, shearing it in half. Haggan was ejected from the car. Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene.
Hayden said roads were icy in the early morning hours, with patches of black ice observed on the highway. Police were reconstructing the crash to learn more, but Hayden said it seemed that Haggan was traveling faster than the speed limit, based on statements of those in the other vehicles.

We read that “Haggan was ejected from the car.”
Obviously another case of a malfunctioning seatbelt. Probably the stitches broke or the steel anchor pulled out of the frame.
If we could get auto companies to improve their seatbelts many lives could be saved.
Because when they do work your car can take a wicked pound and you can walk away.
I was hit broadside by a Belfast fire engine that ran a stop sign on route one while coming home from a fire. Pinwheeled two or three times. And played for a dance a couple of hours later that night in Camden.
Nothing like a seatbelt when they’re working right.
The humble Farmer
Where you there or something? Seat belt failure occurrences are very low unless you read ambulance chaser lawyer homepages.
Seatbelts work quite well when buckled properly.
I always buckle up.
I acknowledge the tragedy in this but could the headline be cleaned up a little bit better here?
