SUN CITY CENTER, FLA. – Pauline “Polly” Jellison Weatherbee, 94, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Aston Gardens. She was born July 17, 1918, in East Corinth.
Polly was raised in Bangor and graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, with honors, as a Phi Beta Kappa. After World War II she and her husband, Artemus E. Weatherbee, resided in Silver Spring, Md., for 30 years while he served in various U.S. government agencies, retiring in 1973 with the rank of ambassador. They retired to Kennebunk and Sun City Center, Fla. Polly was an active member of P.E.O. for nearly 50 years, serving as chapter president and attending three international conventions. An accomplished pianist, she worked in the music department at Marjorie Webster Junior College in the Washington, D.C., area. She lived in Manila, Philippines, from 1970 to 1973, while her husband served as U.S. Director of the Asian Development Bank. They traveled extensively, circling the world several times visiting more than 50 countries. Polly was always active in local activities. She enjoyed music, reading, bridge, golf and especially being with people. Those who knew her will sorely miss her sparkling eyes, warm smile, quick wit and engaging personality.
Polly was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, in 1995; her daughter, Sue Weatherbee Adams, in 2001; and her brother, Charles A. Jellison Jr., in 2009. She is survived by her two sons, Richard C. Weatherbee of Denver and Sun City Center, Fla., and Steven S. Weatherbee of Fairfield, Pa.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at United Community Church, Sun City Center, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Polly by making a donation to the charity of your choice.
