ORLAND – William C. Larkin, 85, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the son of Millerd G. and Elizabeth A. (Davis) Larkin.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and graduated from Plattsburgh State Teachers College with a degree in elementary education. Before retirement in 1983 he worked for Albany International Corp., Albany, N.Y. Bill and Barbara raised their family in Delmar, N.Y., and were active in Delmar United Methodist Church. They retired to Orland in 1991, where Bill was active in Orland United Methodist Church. In addition, he served as treasurer of Orland Historical Society and was a founding member and past president of Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust. He was a volunteer for Friends in Action and Literacy Volunteers of America. He had a lifelong interest in trains and railroading.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara D. Larkin of Orland; his children, Stephen S. Larkin, Judith L. Larkin and David A. Larkin; and Stephen’s son, David A. Larkin. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by one son, William C. Larkin Jr.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Jan. 5, 2013, at Orland United Methodist Church. Gifts in Bill’s memory may be made to Orland United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 226, Orland, ME 04472.
