MERRILL, Maine — A state police officer and his tracking dog led police to a Presque Isle man shortly after the suspect crashed a car on Route 212 late Thursday, state police said Sunday.
Wayne Boulier, Jr., 32, of Presque Isle, was charged with operating after suspension, violation of conditions of release, driving to endanger and criminal mischief, state police Sgt. Brian L. Harris said.
Boulier complained of head and neck pain from injuries suffered in the crash. He was treated at Houlton Regional Hospital before being taken to the Aroostook County Jail at about 10 p.m., a jail worker said.
The incident began when Troopers Carman Lilley and Jill Monahan went to to a motor vehicle crash on Route 212 in which a 2011 Nissan had lost control early Thursday evening. The vehicle went off the road and struck some trees before its driver ran off, Harris said.
Trooper Chad Fuller was called to the scene and conducted a track with his K-9 tracking dog, Glenni, and found Boulier within an hour a short distance from the crash. Boulier surrendered without incident, Harris said.
Police and workers at Aroostook County Jail in Houlton said Boulier had a somewhat lengthy criminal record consisting mostly of minor offenses. In 2000 he held off police with a rifle for about five hours at his parents’ home before surrendering to police.
He was charged two years later with escaping from an Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department transport car and was captured about an hour later at an apartment less than a mile away in Mars Hill.
Boulier’s vehicle was towed from the scene with heavy damage. Boulier remained held without bail in the Aroostook County Jail late Sunday. He is due in Aroostook District Court early this week, a jail worker said.
Merrill is a town just west of Houlton with a population of just under 1,000, according to the last census.
Merrill’s population is 249. And 12 miles west of houlton. “Not just west of it.”
That mileage must be as the crow flies. It’ about 17 miles to Smyrna Mills, then bang a right. Merrill goes roughly 5-7 miles from the old Lincoln School up to Knowle’s Corner and Rt. 11 (it was the closest place to buy beer at the time). :)

Seems he didn’t try to run away as much as just get a short way from the the vehicle before the cops showed. Hmm, wonder what he hid under a big rock? Betcha an 8-1/2 to fifteen year bid would wipe that smirk off in a hurry, but that don’t happen for vehicle stuff and he knows it.
He also voilated conditions of release.
He sounds like a productive member of our society.He probably had a very good reason for operating after suspension.Perhaps one of his friends could tell us what that reason was.
