MONROE, Maine — A local man who was arrested twice in November and charged with sexual abuse of the same minor is behind bars.

Christopher Whitcomb, 35, of Monroe was first charged by the Maine State Police on Nov. 13 with the abuse of a 14-year-old girl. Then Whitcomb was out on bail, according to Detective Merl Reed of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, when police received a report that the teen had run away from a Waldo County home on Monday, Nov. 26. They also heard a tip that she might be with Whitcomb.

So they brought him to the sheriff’s office and interviewed him, Reed said.

“Mr. Whitcomb disclosed that he had been with the female juvenile. He disclosed that they had had sex with one another,” the detective said. “Obviously, with this incident, he knew how old she was.”

Police then charged Whitcomb with felony violation of his conditions of release and sex abuse of a minor. He was taken to Waldo County Jail to be booked but was transferred to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he remained Tuesday afternoon, according to jail officials.

No bail has been set for Whitcomb.

  1. What a pig.. you’re 35 years old! Leave children alone, ugh.. these are the kid of stories that boil my blood.

    1. The way this story reads it doesn’t sound as if he raped her. It makes it sound more consensual than anything else. With that said a 35 year old man should know better than to sleep with a 14 year old girl in the year 2012 as it is against the law.

Edit: I cannot reply directly to Betty as her comment is waiting approval so I will do it here. I am not blaming the 14 year old girl, at all but a 14 year old can consent to a sexual act. It doesn’t make it legal but they can consent. No where in the article does it state he raped her. If the article changes I will gladly edit my post.

      1. The article doesn’t mention it, but Sexual Abuse of a Minor is typically a Class D misdemeanor in the State of Maine. However, because he’s so much older (more than 10 years), it becomes a Class C felony:

It is true that under Maine law, a 14-year-old can legally consent to having sex with someone as long as the older person isn’t more than 5 years older. So at the most extreme, a 14yo could legally have sex with a 19yo and a 15yo could have sex with a 20yo. 16 is the absolute age of consent – a 16yo can have sex with anyone of any age under Maine law.

  2. Guess this is a reason to ban heterosexual marriage, right? Isn’t that what those opposing gay marriage tried to argue?

    1. I’m pretty sure theres a difference between gay marriage and molesting young kids. Gay marriage shouldn’t be the focus of this.

  3. I looked up this guy on Facebook and on August 19th he posted a picture of the back window of a pickup truck with a decal on it that says “Save a deer, hunt a pedophile.” SO bummed that I cant leave a comment, I’d have a select few words for him.
