ORONO, Maine — Camden National Bank opened the doors Monday to its newest location — the site of the former Bank of America branch at 56 Main St., which had been closed since March.
“We believe a Maine-based community bank branch is important to the economic viability of Maine’s downtowns,” Camden National President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Dufour said. “So when we saw the opportunity to open the Orono location, we knew we could make an impact on the community as well as numerous people from the University of Maine.”
Besides re-establishing service for customers previously served at the Orono location, Camden National restaffed the branch with former and new employees.
In October, Camden National Bank acquired 14 branches in Maine and approximately 30,000 customers when Bank of America decided to divest itself of those locations.
This represented a $13 million investment by Camden National. Other branches now operating as Camden National Bank are located in Auburn, Augusta, Brewer, Gardiner, Old Town, Newport and Waterville.
Camden National also increased its presence in Bangor and Lewiston. Camden National now operates in 50 locations and has 60 ATMs as well as online and mobile banking services.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Camden National will host a ribbon-cutting and grand opening event at the Orono branch featuring prizes and giveaways. The public and customers are invited.

No comment, i do not like this bank. I do not like what Bank of America did to us. Enjoy those that use it.
Camden National Bank is not Bank of America. No comparison. CNB’s President is a UMaine alumnus. Good guy. Good bank.
BOFA was a much better bank than CNB who I plan on leaving come the new year. I’ve had nothing but trouble with CNB since they took over.
The transition was smooth for me as in getting a new ATM card and PIN but that was the only smooth part. The rest has gone downhill.
can you be more specific on the downhill part?
It took them over two weeks to get my online checking account setup and the biggest one was they didn’t process my payroll check properly and that left me standing in line at Walmart with insufficient funds.
I had to spend 15 mins on the phone with them just to get the funds released when they should have never been held.
I don’t like holding up a line and looking like a broke person as I run my card over and over for it not to work and then I go to the ATM to remove the cash only for it to tell me I don’t have sufficient funds when I know I do.
It is embarrasing to stand there and have othes judge you because CNB cannot do their job properly.
While BOFA might have done some stupid stuff they never left me hanging in a check out line feeling like a broke person.
This location is great if you are on foot and on foot only. It is a horrible place to get in and out of if your in a vehicle. I was happy to see that location close because it allowed traffic to flow much better in that area. So much for that now.
