BELFAST, Maine — A car reported stolen Sunday morning led to charges for both the car owner and the man police believe was driving it.
According to deputy Ben Seekins of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department, Dennis Doherty, 55, of Swanville reported the theft of his 1999 Oldsmobile Alero at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.
The vehicle “was discovered a little later, at 8:30 a.m., on Oak Hill Road, turned upside down in the woods,” Seekins said. Belfast police investigated the crashed vehicle, since it was discovered near the Belfast-Swanville line.
After investigating, Seekins said he concluded that Derrick Roberts, 23, who lives with Doherty, had been driving the car the previous night and crashed it in the early morning hours. He was uninjured. Seekins said both men admitted their deception.
Doherty was charged with filing a false police report and Roberts was charged with failure to report an accident by the quickest means and operating after suspension.
Duh?
How in the H–L do you get such a low ground-clearance car THAT far into the woods AND flip it??? No wonder the dudes license is suspended.
