BANGOR, Maine — A police officer attempting to arrest a local man on a charge of domestic violence assault had to defend himself against a martial arts move in order to make the arrest, and he and another officer got punched and kicked in the process.
Anthony J. King, 24, of Bangor was arrested just before 3 p.m. Monday and charged with three felonies — assault on a police officer, domestic violence assault and refusing to submit to arrest — as well as misdemeanor assault, disorderly conduct and terrorizing, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said in a press release Tuesday. There was also an outstanding warrant against King.
Officer Tim Shaw arrived at King’s residence on Deer Isle Road with the department’s mental health liaison and a struggle ensued.
“Officer Shaw reported that King and he went to the ground and that King attempted a common martial arts move on the officer known as a ‘triangle choke,’” Edwards said. “Shaw reported that he defended the attempt successfully and that they both struggled further while Shaw and the liaison kept trying to control and handcuff him. Shaw reported that King punched and kicked the officer and the liaison several times.”
Shaw then drew his Taser and told King he would use the device if the man didn’t calm down.
“At that point King followed the officer’s commands and was handcuffed,” Edwards said. “Two officers reported injuries during the arrest and transport of King to the jail.”
King was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there Tuesday morning, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
Three cops against one bad guy…usually ends up with the one person in cuffs…one way or another!
Their trio “triangle” was much more effective it seems.
In Maine, yes ! In most other States he ends up on a gurney.
(and rightfully so) Bravo to such well compose officers.
Just another in a long line of young people who’s fate has been sealed. Not even 25 with multiple felony’s, and he will be in and out of the system most of his adult life until he turns up dead somewhere. In the mean time causing nothing but grief and mayhem along the way.

Assault on two officers and he doesn’t even have a black eye? Times have changed I guess. In my day this guy would be going to jail with two black eyes, a fat lip and sever lacerations after being maced. He would also have some sore kidneys and ribs.

I used to go to High School with this guy, and he in fact does have some serious mental problems. There is NO excuse for assaulting police.. or assaulting people you live with. I hope he gets the help he needs. Kinda a sad mugshot to see him in a suicide smock.. but thats just how he’s always been.
you must have not known anthony when he got out of High School. He has actually turned into a very good person but when you have a bipolar wife cheating on you with a 15 yeard old boy… Then yeah its probably gonna mess you up! I love Anthony to death and this woman has put him through hell and brought out the best and worse in him! Shes called the cops before and put him in this situation but Ants a good guy and never did anything wrong which he was proven innocent in his trial!! I think his wife need to be sitting in a jail cell with him what 23 year old is allowed to have sex with a 15 year old?!?

I’m sorry, but he can’t be too mentally unstable if he stopped when they threatened to taser him. A real crazy person would have kept right on doing his crazy thing. Sounds like a bratty kid who obviously thinks he is above the law. Stupid, you could have gotten out of this with a slap on the wrist (ridiculous also). Now those felony charges will follow you around for the rest of your life. Loser.
