PORTLAND, Maine — Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect in an assault that took place last month.

The assault occurred the evening of Nov. 17, according to Lt. Scott Pelletier of the Portland Police Department.

The male suspect approached a female on Vaughan Street, ran up to her and knocked her to the ground, according to Pelletier.

The victim struggled with the suspect until he fled the scene, Pelletier said. The suspect is described as a black man between 18 and 23 years old, between 5-foot-6-inches and 5-foot-8-inches tall, 170-180 pounds, and wearing a dark winter hat, a dark jacket and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call Portland police at 874-8533.
