SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A mall in Maine has sacked Santa Claus after children and parents complained he was rude, grumpy and wouldn’t even let one child sit on his lap.

Officials at the Maine Mall in South Portland say they’re looking for a jollier Santa and hope to have him in place Thursday.

Jessica Mailhiot and her 6-year-old daughter, Chantel, went to see Santa this week. They told WGME-TV he was rude and wouldn’t let the girl sit on his lap when they said they didn’t want to buy a $20 photo.

Chantel says when she asked Santa for an American Girl doll, he replied she’d get an “American football.”

When the mom posted her story online, others shared similar experiences.

The station contacted the Santa, but he didn’t want to comment.

  1. Oh, the horror!! People need not look any further than the article containing the letter from the mother/wife in Orrington who lost SO MUCH to see what is really important in life.

  2. Hey folks lighten up will you, gee whiz. In New York city half of the Santa’s are intoxicated with very bad body order.

This is too funny, Santa got the ax. Poor bas–rd, it was bad enough he had to humiliate himself to keep food on the table.

  3. You mean republican taxageddon… they’re the ones who are threatening to raise rates on all Americans to save the wealthiest 2% a tax hike of under 5%.

    1. No, this one is Obama’s call. He actually wants taxes raised. It’s call control of the masses, which obviously you are part of.

  4. This pseudo-Santa should be locked in a room and forced to watch Miracle on 34th St. for at least 48 hours!

  5. What do you want to bet that the mall presents the mom with a gift certificate or an American Doll as a way of making up for her “bad experience”?

  6. If the Santa has to deal with many of todays spoiled, give me, give me kids and their parents I can understand why he would be grumpy …………………

  7. The WGME story says that when the mom posted on line others shared similar experiences IN OTHER PLACES, not necessarily as the BDN version suggests, at the Maine Mall. Who knows, but in this day and age, any Santa should have a Clause in his contract that protects him from un-substantiated claims that are likely to arise when dealing with a high number of children and their parents.

  8. If only we hadn’t wasted a trillion dollars invading a nation that did NOT have Weapons of Mass Destruction! Bush charged up the cost of that unnecessary war on a credit card and now we have to pay for his folly!

    1. Blame it on Bush if you want but our Congressional leaders had to approve the financing of it and continue to approve financing. Bush’s addition to the debt was just under $5 T in 8 years…Obama’s addition to the debt is over $6 T in 4 years. And it doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon.

      1. While your comparison is clear, I really don’t care anymore which party is in office, we just need an administration who will reduce the debt, not increase it. Its despicable that both sides cannot get their acts together and reduce our debt. All you prove there is that republicans aren’t as bad as democrats when it comes to spending, but both sides have a significant spending problem.

        1. I wasn’t trying to take a particular side but when people just point a finger one way and refuse to look in the mirror at their own party…well I just had to point out that neither side is perfect. I personally think that both sides need to grow up and do what is right for our country and not necessarily their donors.

    2. well looks like the dems are ready to go into syria, look at the mess they made in Egypt, and Lybia, interesting the Muslim Brotherhood. So Santa goes, must be dem :)

  9. Gee even Santa has a bad day. [Grin] Better to leave Santa to a kids imagination and then they will never know that Santa ever feels bad.

    1. Sometimes parents interject too much into a situation and make it worse than it already is. I don’t know about this situation. Some children are scared off (cry, etc) before they even get their turn in line. Hopefully the Santa they finally get to talk with is, minimally, a cheerful, positive sounding person.

  10. Where we used to live, the mall gave out a Santa picture for free.
$20 for a picture? What a cheesy operation. Typical of the grasping toads at the Maine Mall. The place where you have to go to the middle of the mall to get a wheelchair (figure that one out). And where the have removed almost all of the seats for those of us who like to sit down while their wives browse.
    Frankly, I avoid the dump.

    1. “And where the have removed almost all of the seats for those of us who like to sit down while their wives browse.” There must be a bar there somewhere. ;-)

  11. You need some therapy or something. Every article, no matter what the topic, turns into an anti Democratic party tirade by you. Obsessions are really not good things.

    1. Hours long procession of stranger’s rug rats and drape apes would make me scream off into the night.

  12. You mean when the Bush tax cuts expire by law? A law enacted by Republicans no less.

    You are an obfuscating BS’er.

    1. A “spine” will have to be grown by the public before the democrat taxageddon of 2013 hits! I feel very bad because many of you will not make it if your whining about a meany old Santa!

  13. This whole Santa thing is so silly. It’s just another scam perpetrated by merchants to sell crap to people that they probably don’t need. It’s too bad the majority of people are so stupid and just don’t can the whole idea. People would save a pile of money and probably be better off.

    1. Wow, aren’t you a positive, cheerful person. Go get your festivus pole and enjoy the airing of grievances, alone, in a dark room, away from the rest of humanity.

  14. A “spine” will have to be grown by the public before the democrat taxageddon of 2013 hits! I feel very bad because many of you will not make it if your whining about a meany old Santa!

  15. What if Santa was hard of hearing? This story is much ado about absolutely nothing. American Girl Doll, American football….said by a shy child could sound almost a like. Just saying…

  16. He found out the real Santa is in the White House. And the gifts are food stamps, welfare and cell phones.

  17. Oh no, not Santa!! Say it ain’t so, ohhhhh my goodness, he was rude, not jolly? Say it ain’t so Santa!!
