CARIBOU – Jeannette Powers, 90, passed away peacefully with her children at her side Dec. 7, 2012, at Presque Isle Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Fermin and Madeleine (Leger) Richard.
She attended schools in Bouctouche and Moncton, New Brunswick, and later moved to Hartford, Conn., where she was employed at the Hartford Insurance Company. On Jan. 3, 1948, she married the love of her life, Justin Powers. After their wedding in Hartford, Conn., they moved to Caribou where she supported her husband in founding Powers Roofing and Sheet Metal, where she served as bookkeeper for many years. In Caribou, Jeannette was also employed at McGrath Insurance Agency until the birth of her eldest child. She enjoyed summers at their camp at Cross Lake, and she and Justin will be remembered for catching the largest Lake Trout, Togue, ever caught at Square Lake. In retirement, she and Justin spent several winters in Florida and California, and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and eastern Canada. Jeannette enjoyed golfing, playing cards with family and friends, and snowmobiling in the winter. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jeannette was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, her parents, five brothers and a sister. She is survived by her seven children, Lynn Voisine and her husband, Alan, of Cross Lake, Don and his wife, Cindy, of Madawaska Lake, Paul and his wife, Mary, of Woodland, Ken of Caribou, Michelle Michaud and her husband, Dale, of Winslow, Sue of New Gloucester, John and his wife, Tracy, of Caribou; 12 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. The family expresses their thanks to Aroostook Agency on Aging, and especially to the staff of Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Holy Rosary Church, 31 Thomas Ave., Caribou.
