SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A South Portland man was indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury on a slate of charges after an incident in which he allegedly choked his girlfriend and ripped out her earrings.
A grand jury indicted Jeffrey Vandermeiren, 45, on a new charge of aggravated assault, as well as the charges of domestic violence assault and domestic violence terrorizing police levied at the time of the incident.
The December list of Cumberland County grand jury indictments were announced Friday by the county district attorney’s office.
South Portland police said that late on Saturday, Oct. 20, officers were called to the home of Vandermeiren’s girlfriend, who said that Vandermeiren choked her, ripped out her earrings, threatened to kill her and fled the premises.
South Portland police issued a warrant for his arrest and Windham officers allegedly arrested him the next day at his workplace in that town.
