BREWER
Alice Lauretta (Parritt) Phinney, 82, passed away in the morning hours of Dec. 11, 2012 at a Bangor long-term care facility. She was the youngest of eight children born April 5, 1930, in Steuben, to James Roscoe Parritt and Alice Mary Stevens.
Alice was predeceased by all but one sister, Olive Longer and her husband, Jerry Longer, of Lamoine. She will be reunited with her loving parents and her predeceased siblings, Irving Willard Parritt of Steuben, Florence Carrie Young of Southwest Harbor, Lawrence Roscoe Parritt of Steuben, Esther Eva Whittaker of Gouldsboro, Beatrice Lillian Dyer of Steuben and Gertrude Arleta Torrey of Newburgh. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Irving Nathaniel Phinney of Brewer. Alice is also survived by their sons, James Phinney and his wife, Deborah, Brenton Phinney and his wife, Sandra, all of Brewer, Michael Phinney and his wife, Lynn, of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Justin Phinney of Brewer, Aaron Phinney and his wife, July Simpson, of Kittery, Nathaniel Phinney and his wife, Nicole, of Bangor, together with their children, Kaylie and Kyle, Ashley Gifford and her husband, Jeremy, of Brewer, Lisa Gordon and her husband, Thomas, of Newport, together with their children, Andrew and Cody; numerous nieces and nephews of Downeast Maine.
Prior to her onset of Alzheimer’s disease and debilitating stroke in 2010, she was a devoted member of Bangor Baptist Church, Bangor. In the years after, she worshipped with her husband at Twin City Baptist Church, Brewer. Alice was a woman of great faith and looked forward to going home with her Lord and Savior. She made much of every birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas for her family giving graciously with her time and gifts. Unfortunately, because of her progressive dementia, Mammie never really got to know her sweet great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Kyle, Andrew and Cody. Alice will be lovingly remembered by all for who she was before her illness, and her legacy will live on as her influence greatly impacted each member of her family.
A funeral service will be held noon Thursday, Dec. 13, at Twin City Baptist Church, 559 North Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Patrick Heuveline, pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 11:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the fellowship hall immediately after the service Thursday. Interment will be at Eddy Cemetery, Eddington. Mammie would be honored to have donations go toward reaching children and teens through local churches. Those who wish to remember Alice in a special way may make gifts to Twin City Baptist Church’s Children Playground Fund, 559 North Main St., Brewer, ME 04412 or Bangor Baptist Church’s Teen Center Construction Fund, 1476 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.
