CALAIS – Rita E. Wallace, 92, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at a Bangor nursing home. Rita was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Baileyville, daughter of the late Fred and Mary Dechene.
After graduating from St. Croix High School, Baileyville, she married Ernest Geroux. Rita raised her family and worked various part-time jobs. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Calais, and was a member of the Ladies Sodality and Spednic Club. Rita enjoyed playing basketball in her younger years, as well as bowling and playing bingo. In her later years she was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Ernest Geroux; her second husband, Ronald Wallace; two daughters, Flora Thompson and Eda Chambers; a son-in-law, Richard Thompson; and a great-grandson, Joseph Laliberte. Surviving are her twin sister, Eda Lufkin of South Portland; her son, Robert Geroux and his wife, Maxine, of Calais; 11 grandchildren, Richard Thompson and his wife, Rose, of Glenburn, Gary Thompson and his wife, Katherine, of Glenburn, Lisa Oliver and her husband, Rock, of Lincoln, Vanessa Lincoln and her husband, Gerry, of Dixmont, Michael Chambers and his wife, Karen, of Grand Lake Stream, Barry Chambers of Baileyville, Sheryl Ann Buckley and her husband, Patrick, of Westfield, Eric Geroux and his companion, Edna MacArthur, of Princeton, Jo Ellen Leeman and her husband, Edward, of Calais, Kenneth Murphy Jr. of Calais and Linda Fell of Milford; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Calais, with the Rev. James Plourde, celebrant.
