BELMONT, Maine — A man accused of trapping a woman in her house this weekend during a daylong-ordeal that included allegedly forcing her to take IV drugs as well as assaulting her has been arrested.

Christopher McGinn, 26, of Belfast, remained in police custody Monday afternoon after being arrested Sunday evening, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman reported to police that he had come to her Belmont home Saturday morning and proceeded to terrorize her until nighttime. Small children also were present in the trailer during the ordeal, Trafton said.

The woman is not being named because the BDN typically does not identify crime victims.

“She’s scared of him, so he just barges in whenever he wants,” the chief deputy said. “He was argumentative, and she caught him using IV drugs in the bathroom. She said he tried to force her to use the same IV drug. He sprayed it into her mouth against her will.”

McGinn also allegedly assaulted the woman by pushing her down and leaving bruises.

“He had unplugged the phone so she couldn’t call for help,” Trafton said. “He held her in the trailer and wouldn’t let her leave.”

The woman told police that McGinn said he would report to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services that she was using IV drugs so that officials would take her children away.

The episode ended about 8:30 p.m., when McGinn allegedly called the woman’s mother to have her come and and pick up her daughter and grandchildren. The mother came and brought them to a safe place, Trafton said.

The victim sought medical attention Sunday and then came to police to report the incident.

“She had some bruises and some needle marks,” Trafton said.

Police located McGinn and charged him with kidnapping and domestic violence assault. He was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast to be booked. A jail official said Monday afternoon that his bail had been set at $250 cash and a probation-type contract with the Volunteers of America.

  1. Forcible confinement, assault, kidnapping, terrorizing, domestic abuse, forcing drugs on this woman??
All in front of the kids ??
,,,Yes , $250 bail and a “probation type contract with the Volunteers of America”
is just about right….. for a Lunatic!!!
And a Lunatic is who must have set bail this low.

Who are the Volunteers of America ??

    1. You read the story right. If he is going to get “a Volunteers of America probation” that means his sentence is going to be less than one year.

      1. Wow – good thing he didn’t poach a deer, he might get two years – this approach to bail and pretrial conditions is nonsensical – he is violent.

    2. Well the VOA of New England only has 2 volunteer positions posted. First is for someone who can answer the phones in a professional manner and greet visitors and staff into the office. The next is with the Youth Action Team Advisory Board. How nice. He could work with kids AND would get the opportunity to visit Fenway to attend the Sox at batting practice, a pre-game ceremony, and a game. And the organization only requires they get a background check! Oh, wait….. Am I missing something here?

  2. “bail had been set at $250 cash” the bail is a _ _ _ _ ing JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why not set him up with a luncheon with the Gov.

    1. Stopped part-way through this for a deep breath, suddenly it gets questionable whether this is about a genuine bad guy or a made-up villain to help her beat a drugs testing appt. with DHHS. As Belfast Turns, on tomorrows episode we’ll learn that he’s really the live-in boyfriend and one of the kids may be his. Stay turned…

    2. Sounds like the Judge agrees on the sketchy nature of the story…$250 bail…seems a little slim for such a violent crime.
